code 9...irratic idle/stalling I have tried everything experienced help needed
I have a crx si with a ZC swap and a ZDYNE gold ecu. I am getting a code 9 on my ecu. the car idles around 200rpm and sometimes stalls. I replaced the distributor the stalling stopped but the it continued to idle poorly. Now the car is starting to stall again. I have:
replaced the distributor and checked - 450 ohms within spec
replaced the cam angle sensor/checked 1100 ohms - not sure what spec is
cleaned throttlebody/checked TPS 4.9V - within spec
checked all vacuum hoses
new cap/rotor
possible things i can think of
I used 16 gauge speaker wire to wire the cam angle sensor
I haven't checked intake air temp sensor
there is a two prong connection unhooked near the back the engine on the driverside, I couldn't find anywhere to place this but the car ran fine for 1 year with out this hooked up.
Please help, any suggestions/personal experiences will help
thanks guru's,
Evan

come on.........someone help me out.....I have searched for this topic only to find the basic "change your distributor"
oh i also checked the cam timing.......crank at TDC cam's were perfectly lined up.... i love this car but when it stalls at a stop light and won't start for a few minutes its a little embarrasing
Ok, so lets get something straight.
you replaced the distributor, then the cam angle sensor?
Code 9 is CYP (cylinder position sensor). So replacing the cam angle sensor won't do you any good.
Now, if you have taken care of the code 9 and the engine still idles low, then you most probably have a IACV (Idle air control valve)problem.
It could be stuck close not letting much air go by at idle, and if the fans or any other load happens at idle, the engine can't keep up and it will stall.
I have cleaned the IACV on enough cars to know that it only works for a little bit.
The solution to that is a new one.
good luck.

I haven't even thought of the IACV......by the way, what is the IACV? I am still getting the code 9...but i may not have reset the ecu in a while.
thanks again

I feel like the biggest dumbass but i never hooked up the EACV. hopefully i'll be a dumbass with a nicely running crx tomorrow. Could this have not thrown a ecu code 14 which is EACV?

forget all the **** mentioned about IACV and all other stuff
when the ecu tells u code 9 tells u theres something wrong with the CYL sensor......
wich means u either have a bad dizzy, did a bad wiring when doing MPFI and or the ecu its kinda messed up
the intake air temp, IACV and all other stuff will trow codes if they were bad.... disregard those and dont even bother them before they go bad...
way to check it.... make sure u get the sensor readings on the dizzy plug.... if within specs make sure those readings are the same on the ecu plug.
if not then wiring problems are present between dizzy and ecu .... if is the same, then ecu might be bad or the dizzy isnt working while drivin.....
i got that code and my measurements are within specs on the ecu and dizzy.... i got another dizzy to check if thats the problem.... ill update on that .....

great, i'll try that too. so should i check for the 350-500ohm reading all the way back to the ecu prongs? do you know which prongs on the crx si those would be? maybe point me in the direction of a picture would be great. thanks for your help, my response to this topic has been great!!!
C1 and C2
are the 2 pins for the CYL sensor
si me hablas en AIM o MSN te explico todo mas sencillo

I just had the exact same code on my civic. Like he said check for 350-500 ohms resistance at the plug to the dizzy(not all the way to the ecu) if there is no resistance then change your dizzy(like I just did, $300 later), if there is, then change your ecu to a know working one and see. Remember to pull the 10amp hazard light fuse to reset the ecu as well.
