Default First Suspension Mod - How big a sway bar? 01 - LS

Hey guys, I'm new to the board and I tried to read and search before asking the same question over and over.

I've got a stock 2001 LS with a ram air intake. That's it.

I don't have a ton of money to spend on the engine, and I'm not sure how much more I'd get out of it anyway. I figured I might as well go for some mods to make it handle as nicely as possible.

I was researching front and sway bars and I've read a lot on them. The only thing I'm not sure of is the stock size on the 2001 LS. I've read a bunch of posts on Deja about using a Del Sol sway bar (from the VTEC models) on the Integra. Something about the Integra stock being around 12 -13 mm and the Del Sol being at 15mm. I've read going up to the 22 from the Type R can rip free if you don't re-inforce it and might give me too much stiffness on the lowly LS.

Do any of you here have LS'es and what do you recommend? I'd like to stiffen it up and I've been advised against the front bar on a front wheel drive car as it might give me too much oversteer.

Is a rear sway worth it if I don't change out shocks or springs?

Thanks for reading,
-D

No question about it. Do a ITR sway bar search and you will come up with nothing but "OMG AWESOME" "BEST MOD EVER" etc..

On top of that, it's cheap

Thanks for the replies

Just so I'm sure, ITR = Integra Type R, right? (I'm new to the message boards and this type of car work).

And in my searching of this forum, the phrase "Sway Bar" was ALWAYS associated with ITR and "OMFG!!!!!!!!!!" So obviously it's worth it. But...

I'm concerned that if my original sway bar is really that small, 14mm or so, and I jump up to a 22 which is what the ITR is, right? That's (22/14)^4 = 6.09. That's a +600% increase which seems a little nutso to me

I've heard conncerns that too much of this and the next time someone cuts me off on the interstate at 70 mph and I have to jump into the next lane I'm going to oversteer like a madman.

I need to see what I have on there stock and I guess decide how crazy I want to go from there.

the itr sway bar will be a good mod and if you got another $100 laying around i would recomend a neuspeed upper front strut tower bar.....this thing is solid and will make a world of difference in the way you car handles and responds to steering input.....good luck and welcome to the board

So the front and rear sway bar, reinforcement, tower bar etc... You don't think that's too much for an LS?

In case you couldn't tell I'm concerned about going overboard

I still plan on using this car as my daily vehicle so I don't want to make it terribly uncomfortable or unsafe.

So I'm trying to find out how big my current sway bar is.

I checked http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org and it seems every integra I bring up has the "Spring 22mm" for the sway bar. Am I looking at the wrong thing or is their catalog out of whack?

I'll check my service manual when I get home today, or I'll have to crawl under the car and take a look myself

your front sway bar is 24mm and rear is 13mm. you won't need to get a new front sway bar (unless you break it) it will do just fine. the usdm( united states domestic market) itr bar(22mm) or the jdm( japanese domestic market) itr bar (23mm) will give your car more oversteer but I wouldn't worry about losing control going around a corner unless you can't drive.

i would get the rear sway( usdm or jdm) with a BSQ kit and a front upper strut bar(neuspeed(imo), spoon etc. stay away from dc dports) and this will stiffen up your car.

i would also suggest going to team-integra.net. read the articles and learn about how things work on your car so that you can get the most performance out of your car. have fun and beware that this is a sickness

Well actually the way bar is a spring. Someone here will explain that, cause one fo the members knew the exact reason why it is a "spring 22mm". But, just to let you know I have a 97 LS and just installed the sway bar with the BSQ kit and it was BADASS. I just tested it today, and OMG it was just beautiful handling. It is definitely not an overboard mod. It is very simple mod that is bolt on except for the minor drilling.

Detailed installation guides:

Believe everyone here the sway bar is the best bang for the buck!

He is absolutely correct. I love the itr rear sway bar and it is not too much for an LS at all.... its a great handling mod that will help counter the understeer that fwd cars tend to have. BSQ is a very helpful guy and i have had not a single problem with his mounting kit and that is the very one i show on my website as well as linked above by silvrintegra. And if you have any other questions.. i'd be more than willing to try and answer them for ya.

d'oh, double posting strikes again. Damn "reload" button..

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, it's good to hear from other LS owners that 22mm isn't too much.

For those of you that know, how did you find out the size of the stock sway bar on the 2001 LS? I still haven't checked my manual like I said I was going to
