New Head gasket, New Radiator, New etc. Still Overheating!!!!
Hey everyone,
95 Honda civic ex 1.6 liter V-tech coupe
I got a new Radiator, New head gasket, new thermo, New timing belt, new water pump and new NGK Spark plugs. The temperature is still going up when I'm idle stopping at a light. I have to turn on the heater just to let engine cool off. I don't know what else to do. Any information will be helpful. ??could it be a thermo switch??

"thermoswitch"
the switch which looks like a sensor, attached to the water neck/thermostat housing and it is what determines when your fan will come on to aid cooling of the radiator/coolant.
try that!

How much does it cost to replace the thermo switch?
It is simple to replace yourself?
If I take it to the shop, how much should I expect to pay?
I need pictures of how a thermo swith looks like and instructions on how to replace it. Any help??????

as far as becomming a member...good things come to those that wait...it take a few days...
replacing the thermoswitch is a breeze...unlug it,get a wrench, and unscrew the old one...reverse the process to reinstall the new one.
location should be on the passenger side of the head, usually very close to the distributor.

oh, and one other thing.
we had a simular problem on a friends car. we went thru 2 thermostats from Autozone on a friends car, before trying an OEM one...3 time was the charm. If you arent using OEM, try one from the Honda dealer....its cheaper than a switch, and if it is the problem, then you didnt waste money on the switch.

how can i tell if it is the thermo switch is not working when i take it out??
can it be tested?
I mean i don't want to waste money on two or three thermo's when the problem might be the thermo switch.
What if the thermo was working fine in the first place.
please tell me signs of what might show the defectiveness of the thermo switch.

usually if the switch breaks, it will be either stuck open (which isn't that bad besides it takes a zillion years for your car to warm up) or stuck closed which seems like the case for you if it is your switch because your car is overheating.
I replaced mine with one from autozone and haven't had a problem with it, since i'm ordered a spoon, but just haven't gotten off my *** to put it in or anything else that is sitting in my basement =\

wassup fellow hmongbrotha!
same problem with some dude i just helped in a recent thred. Have you checked your fan to see if its still intackt with the fan motor bolt. In some cases the nut that holds the fan onto the fan motor gets loose or falls off leaving the fan useless while the motor spins. Check it out and see if thats the problem. good luck bro

Open your radiator cap and turn on your engine. Let your car idle with the cap open until all the bubbles come out. That should solve the problem.
Some good advice given above. I'm just curious, did you have a shop/mechanic do all the service you mentioned? If so, they should've been able to figure out the problem.. If you did all the work yourself, props..
Ive tried damn near everything to stop my c1 from running hot..i just cant figure it out...fans jumped, radiator flushed, different temp thermo's, took the thermo out, the head gasket is good
hey everyone, i already replaced the thermoswitch and everything is going okay now. Thanks you all for the advice and i hope one day i can offer my advice to you guys. Thanks lots!!!!!
