94-5 LS with supercharger
Hey guys, this has probably been covered before but I am wondering if anyone in this forum specifically has a sc on their 1.8 with no other major mods (assuming header/exhaust....bolt on's are done). Are you happy with the power gains and did yo ufeel it was worth it? How is your reliability?
this is the only thing I would be somewhat interested in right now in place of my CRX so I am just trying to see what people think of that setup. Thanks in advance for any comments

i have seen one guy on here with a integra ls with jackson racing supercharger, i think he had I/H/E and maybe a 6 or 8lb pulley (can't remeber the weight) and he ran 13.9. I think you would be alot better off with a turbo set-up. I have a LS and looked at superchargers but found that turbo would be better
I NEED reliability....and turbo...ehhh
I dont want crazy HP, just a little extra would be great if I can get it without sacrificing the reliability of a low mileage motor

I was in the same dilemma...SC has no lag, easy to install and less tuning or maintenance problems, however, a SC only will increase your power by 30%-40%. An ls has 140 to the crank so maybe you'll see 160ish to the wheels. Since both can cost about the same (lots of turbo kits for sale in the FI Classifieds) but you will probably get at least 200 to the wheel with a basic turbo set up with stock internals. For me I'll be going turbo in about 1 to 2 years. If you had a gsr or type r, a SC would be very beneficial, just not for an car without some ***** already.
I guess I fit that bill........
as you can see by my sig, I have a 1994 ls with the jrsc installed and beside from the intake nothing else done to the car. Heck I still have my stock steelies......
Now am I happy with the power gains? While I haven't had my car on a dyno machine yet, or even really tuned yet I can tell you that for the money you pay for a new jrsc kit it is NOT worth the money!
If you have an ls engine and want to go with a FI set up then for the money I would go with a turbo kit of some kind. Reliability wise I have no complaints what so ever and the torque curve is really nice I just wish I had gone with the gsr or type-r kit so I could have gotten the larger charger unit instead of this POS m45 thingy.......
Of course if money isn't a problem

so are the kits interchangeable then?? regardless...I need A sc...so IF anyone wants toget rid of one hollar at me
but yeah, more input is welcome

well no I do not think the different kits would would just pop right in but they should be able to be modified to fit........
there are 2-4 people on here that really know about superchargers the integra engines ........I am not one of them though
I am just stating my own experiences (Sonny) sorry don't know if thats his real name or not, knows quite a bit about the jackson racing set ups
John knows a lot as well, plus he has what looks like a nice intercooler set up for the JRSC set ups...

Well well, the almighty debate: supercharger vs. turbocharger. Let me tell u this son, if you put the two side by side and compare the pro's and con's of each, a turbocharger will the best way to go ON YOUR CAR. Yeah, superchargers are easy to bolt on, possible more reliable in the long run, and its a lazy way to add power. But if you really want to blow the hell out of people, get a turbo. First off, u get the great pssshhhtt sound when you shift gears on a turbo. Secondly, you get a whole hell of a lot more power out of a turbo. Also, how much are you gonna pay for that supercharger? Especially a jackson racing, your looking at $4000. You can get a pre-tuned, dyno tested GReddy turbocharger for $3000 and get like 40 more horsepower to the wheels than you would for a supercharger. But, I cant TELL you what to do I can just give you my suggestions. But when your on the streets at a race or at the 1/4 mile track and you race a turbocharged Teg and lose by 2 seconds, just think about when you had the decision to go turbo or super...also, go to http://www.team-integra.net, its a great website and it has articles on this kind of stuff.
yah...fully understand turbo and been there....finished with that stage. Now I want reliable hp. Turbo is every bit as lazy as supercharging as far as getting hp out of your car. I don't need to be the fastest out there, but my supercharged LS crx with 160 to the wheels (quoting an above post) PROBABLY won't come in 2 full car lengths behind an integra - I may get beat but it won't be that humiliating
You will never get a straight answer from anyone on HT.com or TI.net. If you can get the jrsc kit used from someone then yes it is definetly worth it. I'm getting mine in July, hopefully, for $1700. I don't see that as a bad deal at all. I have an automatic though so a turbo really isn't gonna be the best option for me. I rode in a supercharged 98 LS and it was fuggin' awesome. I wouldn't recommend forking out that much cash if you want to see badass gains. My car is my daily driver and I don't want a turbo setup 'cuz I'm poor and don't really need tons of power.
BTW the ITR and GSR kits will fit w/minor modifications but it's not worth it because no matter what you do, you will still only be pushing 6 psi. I would recommend you either leave it that way, get the crv pulley, or just get a turbo.
Edit: Actually the M62 blower is a much better choice. It won't overheat at 10psi.

sounds like you want the same thing as me...I want to find a used one at a reasonable price and have minor reliable gains. again this is for a b18b crx, so there will be less need for MAD gains hp wise

I was gonna send him there!! Anyway I am finishing building my project right now and I have an LS motor with the M62 type r jackson SC on it. Right now its pullied for about 10-11 lbs of boost. I hope that it makes some decent power, but I won't know till I get all the bugs worked out of the car. In a few weeks I hope to take it to the dyno and tune the motor. I say if you just want a little more pep then a SC is fine. If you go to the site above, there are some guys turning good times with the SC.

you'd definitely be happier with a turbo over a jackson racing unit, since you have the b18b engine...the only problem is that for a turbo to work well you would want to get some extras, such as boost controller and turbo timer, which can be costly depending on the quality of the ones you buy..
in the end it depends on how much power you truly want, and how much money you are willing to put into getting that power...

IMOP you should get the Greddy turbo kit. It is reliable and doesnt make insane horspower and I imagine it spools fast similar to a roots type supercharger considering that it is a small turbo.
thanks...but not interested in any more turbo input...I know enough about that...this thread is specifically asking about superchargers - god DAMN
What is it with all you turbozombies? Were you all brainwashed to tell everyone they have to have a turbo. If you can't post useful information, or read the thread topic then don't post here. I plan on going with the itr blower and then getting a stepper pulley. Some guy on here is developing an intercooler/aftercooler for the JRSC. He would probably be alot more help then all these turbo idiots.
cool THANK YOU for RELEVANT info..turbo was cool, now onto something different. More information on hybrid blowers? I want one for my LS...anything I can make fit would be great but what exactly is involved with mod'ing them to fit?
ok jesus ******* crist, i replied to put my input about a turbo because i too was looking into a JRSC, but it just wouldnt give me the gains i was looking for (and i have a GSR motor, not the b18b, so maybe that tells you something, or maybe you dont care about power...
but, heres useful information: i dont know anyone who has a b18b JRSC'd motor in person, mostly because everyone realized that the jackson kit for the b18b not only uses a crappier blower but also runs less boost...
i do however know someone on team-integra who has this setup (non-vtec + jrsc) and he wasnt thrilled with what he came out with. dont get me wrong, he seems happy enough, but he just wasnt thrilled with what he got.
now on to other topics, such as the intercooler idea. first of all, if the intercooler is like a turbo intercooler (i.e. the air has to travel around the engine bay through piping) then you lose the throttle response which is one advantage of the JRSC in the first place...
am i correct in assuming that you are referring to the kit that uses the air conditioner pulley?
and running higher than 10psi of boost may not be detrimental since the air will be cooled now instead of extremely hot, i do believe the scrolls themselves will not fare well at more boost than 10psi or something very close to it, because while the air entering the head might be cooled, the scrolls will still be extremely hot when spinning faster to create more psi...
even if you can get the gsr or itr blower to fit the ls motor, you still wont see vtec motor gains, but it would be better than the blower that jackson gives you with the b18b kit...
whatever you decide, please dont be one of those people who think you can just throw a supercharger on there and go...you should get colder spark plugs, better ignition components, get proper tuning equipment, properly sized complete exhaust system (from headers to muffler)...the Kamikaze is a good cheap header for the JRSC, although fitment and quality may be an issue. i say cheap because the only other truly good headers for the jrsc are custom setups like hytech, which is expensive.
so what are your power goals? do you have any idea what kind of wheelhorsepower you are aiming for? do you know what size exhaust diameter you need for that power?
try and get a Hondata intake gasket, which claims to increase power by 3-5% (what it really does is reduce the temps, which would ge great for a JRSC'd car...)
and now to reply to all of your comments about turbos:
1. turbo'd motors can be just as reliable as jrsc'd motors, in fact i have heard of a LOT of people who have problems with JRSCs, and the problem was with or because of the blower itself, while turbo cars have problems because people turn up the boost, neglect the maintenance needed, or poorly install something...
2. a JRSC doenst have "lag", but i have seen a boost curve of a JRSC'd b18b motor, and the boost didnt build that quickly as everyone seems to think...although it could have just been his setup or something, i am unsure, but i dont see how that would have affected the boost buildup itself...since superchargers are belt driven and all...it actually didnt build up to full boost until rediculously late in rpms since i always thought it built up boost extremely quickly...
3. i dunno where you got $4000 on a JRSC, but they sell for less than $3000 new
4. Yes on the Jackson Racing website they have a dyno chart of 160whp on a b18b motor, i believe it has i/h/e as the modifications, but i cant remember, its been a while...
And finally, to Havokmkr:
what is it with the turbozombies? well, my guess is that most of us want more power than a jrsc will ever give (i know thats what it is for me). i know thats not what the thread starter wants, but that is my reason for being pro-turbo. second, a properly sized turbo is way more efficient than any Eaton blower...thats the kind of blower we are discussing if you didnt know somehow...
is this enough useful information for you???
sorry im a turbo idiot, i guess you know TONS more about JRSCs than i do, huh?
well i was in the same boat, i wanted a JRSC, but ended up deciding that the pros did not make up for the cons...but instead of wasting everyones time, i simply stated that you will probably be happier with a turbo, and it all depends on the power you want and how much money you are willing to spend with that power....and that still holds true. if you are unwilling to spend the money and time for maintenance of a turbo'd motor, then so be it. i was not at all incorrect in my statement...
are we LITTLE ******* KIDS?? what is with this attacking people anyway? i didnt see anyone else insult you, they were just stating their opinion...perhaps you didnt want to hear their opinion, but they said it, and unless they delete or edit it, it wont go away, so deal with it instead of calling everyone who has a different view than you an idiot and a "turbozombie" whatever kind of insult that is supposed to be...
please, feel free to post about anything i have said, i'd love to hear it....
