Could be grounding as well. Had this same problem on my ZC (not the same motor but you got nothing to loose) and i noticed that 2 grounds werent right and i tightened them and it worked for me.

The ecu might be throwing a code as well. I have seen O2 sensor codes make this happen.

Did you check the ecu? Just because the CEL turns off, doesn't mean that the ecu is not still throwing the code. Check the ecu, and let us know.

sounds like it could be a wireing fault like the earths. the only way i know that the engine warning light would go off is if the ignition was turned off, which suggests to me that theres a fault somewhere in the ignition barrel or there-abouts. this probably could cause the rev counter to spike/drop. also if it had a bad connection and a reduced voltage/current this would affect performance(spark voltage or fuel pump speed). this would also explain the intermitent nature of it.

Tach jumping makes me think the igniter is going bad. If the igniter poops out then your tach will fly all over the place (it sends the signal to the tach). Mine is going out too

I'd start by replacing your igniter - a piece from a CRX Si will work fine. If the car still bogs after that (sounds to me like the fuel pump is dying) then we'll diagnose that - but let's fix the tach first mmmkay?

So you had the new igniter in for a day? And it still had the same problem with the new piece? Why did you put the old one back in?

Dang, it isn't igniter then

I hate intermittent problems

Have you ever noticed the bogging problem separate from when the tach jumps, or are they simultaneous always?

Well... what I would try doing is hooking up a voltmeter and driving it to see if the volts drop/cut out when the bogging happens... without more info it's hard to say, but it really does sound like the car is cutting off, not just the pump...

do a continuity test on the TPS Sensor, make sure there aren't any flat spots when your opening the butterfly. i dont know if that will cause the needle to jump around but it will make it bog real bad at a certain throttle position.
