Windex On Gauge Cluster Plastic Bad IDEA! help?
I just recently purchased a 1988 CRX Si ... i decided to do vaccum it out and clean the dash, etc today. I was using windex on the dash cause it whats i had lying around...i sprayed it on the gauge cluster and it ended up making spots on the plastic that WILL NOT come out... I have no idea why it did this..there must be a protective coating or something on the plexiglass and the windex just screwed it all up. Well i tried everything i removed the whole cluster cleaned inside and outside with just water with no luck. Also tried baking soda and water...
Is there any other options..it just looks like ****, its on the corner of my RPM gauge and right in the middle with the fuel/temp gauge. The only option im looking at is getting a new gauge cluster
which definatly sucks.
This is such a pisser i just got the damn thing and i tried making it look nicer and fudged it all up

when i was taking it apart it doesnt look like the glass cover actually comes off....i was trying to do that at first but with no sucess. I also looked through the repair manuel and it didnt show anything about that glass coming off....
I doubt my junkyard has any 88-89 CRX's in it anyways...i'd have to really look and travel to a bigger one i live in a small *** area...

you can find them jsut look harder, windex has NH3 in it and that reacts with the plastic to melt it abit, kinda like on tint, they sell a plastic cleaner that works well or a dilute (~10%) solution of simple green works well for me
Overspray from Armour All also does this too... Just use water (with a little soap if dirty) in the future.
In the mean time, try going to a motorcyle shop around your area and look for "Plexus". It comes in a black can with blue text and a white cap. It is a plastic polish/cleaner. Works great detailing bikes, helmets, etc. It seals up the pores of the plastic. With a little elbow grease you might be able to alleviate the spots.

Good idea. I haven't used the product, but any quality plastic polish should work.
