Default Annoying Rattle, Trying to track it down

I have an annoying rattle....bothers the **** out of me...

anyways, the car has 37K on it and i doubt its the auto tensioner...i rev it in neutral and she doesnt rattle

i thought it was the heat shield near the header that protects the alternator, its not that...

i want to get under the car and check the heat shielding including the cat....

IS THERE ANYWAY YOU CAN CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR RESONATORS ARE BROKEN OR LOOSE?

also, it might be an exhaust leak....i noticed one day when i dropped my chapstick under my car in the winter that there was steam coming from where the cat bolts up to the mid pipe for my catback...
CAN A EXHAUST LEAK CAUSE AN ANNOYING RATTLE???
i belive this might be it only because when the engine is cold(metal is contracted) it doesnt make the rattle but when the engine warms up it makes the rattle(metal expanded)

what you think guys??? if its not any of the above(excluding auto tensioner for now) then i will probally take it to my shop to tell them to replace the auto tensioner with a manual one......

sorry for the long and confusing post

mine does it also at about 2600RPM, I believe its the cat thats rattling.
Mine does it a bit at idle when its cold too but thats all.
I HATE IT!!!
I'm thinking about replacing my cat with an aftermarket one(just not sure what brand yet)
Hopefully by then, it will stop

Yes..an exhaust leak can cause a rattle..or what sounds like a rattle, but it is most likely a heat sheild.

If it's a high pitched tin rattle...if that makes sense, that may most definatley be what it is.

Make sure to make sure your spark plugs are tight too...I thought I had an exhaust leak, turned out it was a damn loose spark plug. and the thing almost shot through my hood..thank god for carbon fiber

I would check all of the heat shields throught out the exhaust..not only the header..It most likely one toward the rear of the car.

That one started to rattle on me, I ended up denting it on accident while installing my cat back..no more rattle

this might be retarted, but my cold air intake pipe was rattling against the hole it went through to go under the engine bay. I put a rubber band around it and it stopped.

uhhhhmmm...irrelevant
you can just make the hole a little bigger, or just put some sort of padding on the hole

Possible solution to that tinny metal scraping sound
If your headers have that flex pipe before the cat, check that. it will be hard to notice unless you poke around. It will start to rip apart at either end and cause that tinny scraping sound at certain RPM's. Hard to notice but be careful and don't let those metal strands poke you. They hurt like a *****.

Overtime, this tinny sound is supposedly caused by two things:
*Not using the bracket for the header/flexpipe
*Already broken bracket.

Hope this helps.

take it to honda and tell them to check the cat. it is still cover under warrenty if the car is 97-01 lude and has less than 150000 they will replace the cat. i relaced mine after 50000. they fall apart easy.

It sounds like the timing belt tensioner. It will get worse and worse to the point where it rattles pretty much all the time.

skimb37-i have an aftermarket hi-flow cat

aklucsartis-its not the auto tensioner...one the car has low miles, two, ilt doesnt do it in neutral, so its not the tensioner, i removed it today and drove around and no rattle, so its the bracket
