Rebuilding your own transmission
Pretty much I want to know what parts out of this list I would need to rebuild my tranny... specifically syncro's 2, 3 and 4. What do you recommend I grab to replace those parts of if I should just invest in a new tranny with 0 miles...

Honda is going to charge at least 500 in labor. maybe less if you bring in the tranny your self. but at that price your almost to a type-r (used) + you can still sell your tranny with scratches for about 200-300
I tried to bring the tranny itself into honda when I had the engine at alaniz getting rebuilt and they said they want the car there with the tranny.

Thats upsetting. If you have the time and tools try it out yourself. Do you have the helms for model engine your have?

If you are going to have to buy the new synchro gear sets, I'd say just pick up a used ITR tranny for a couple hundred more instead. The synchro sets run up to $300. Along with other misc. parts... not sure if you have LSD but if you picked up a used ITR tranny you get that and more than likely a low milage tranny

I can tell you from personal experience that synchros can get expensive.
The 3-4 one is almost $200.00 if not more.
If I were you and needed more than 2 synchro sets I'd be thinking about buying a low mileage used ITR tranny.
If you still want to freshen your up, then look at getting:
3 counter shaft bearings
2 mainshaft bearings
mainshaft seal
shifter shaft seal
axle seals
whatever synchros you need
possibly diff bearings, but unlikely
The counter and main bearings are always the first to go.
If you're looking for those bearings then you'll need to find the exploded diagrapms of the main and counter shafts as well as the clutch and tranny/bell housings as they are listed on the computers there most times.
Are we talking about a 99-00 Civic Si?

If people think building a tranny is as simple as reading and following instructions it's not quite that simple. I've seen some very skilled techs here at our shop on the verge of throwing fits when trying to get a case back together.
Sometimes diagrams and words on a page can't show the minute differences in a gear or collar being right side up or not.
If I were you I would not let anyone near that tranny after it's torn apart. If someone grans up a part and moves it from how you had laid it down you might be wanting to kill someone once you find that the case won't go back together or it won't go in reverse.
Remember exactly how you had the **** while it was coming out of the tranny.

lol... what about stoner ryan... you guys ripped apart homedudes tranny that one night didnt you, the one that had the single cam supercharged coupe that sold it and got a jetta 1.8t.

This is the way I would go too. I would never consider fooling around with my tranny. Think about it, if you screw it up, you might have to do it again or even worse you could totally destroy it and have to buy an ITR tranny anyway.

my sister is rebuilding a tranny at her tech school,...i watched her do one and well,...im gonna for sure stay away from rebuilding a tranny,...i will just buy a new one if mine goes out

a tranny rebuild is not for the faint of heart but it is completely possible with a LOT of patience.
*they KEY to getting the cases halves back together is to shake it like an earthquake because some shafts will not find their seat easily because not all of the holes are countersunk big enough. you cannot try and force them together or even tap themn with hammers etc.. you need to wiggle them sideways like you are haaving a epileptic seizure. And yes I am serious. I know now that is THE way to do it after trying fro 3 hours the other ways.
