At stock timing, is 87 octane still ok to use on both motors??

I think only vtec motors need high octane gas.

I run 92 octane on stock timing, 94 octane with 2 degrees advanced. I tried 94 with 4 degrees advanced but got preignition at 7800+ rpm.

 

i run 89 octance in my zc, but i don't think i really need to. i'd don't drive it that much and i had rebuilt it 5,000 miles ago, so i went on the conservative side.

 

i used 89 on my n/a zc setup..then 93+ when it was turbocharged.

 

93 in my b16

 

I wouldnt use 87 on a b16 it will run like crap. Compression is high get the good stuff.

 

93 on my B16, with a buttload of timing advance from my Spoon chip. I wouldn't use 87, just because it may spark knock a little and the computer would retard your timing, costing you HP.

 

i use 93 octane on my zc b/c i figure in japan they don't use low octane gas, so the engine was probably designed w/ something better than 87 in mind.

 

i run 91 in my b16a compression is a tad over 11:1 timing at 0,0

i would run higher octane but in cali 91 is all we got

 

91 on my n/a ZC.. 93 daily and maybe more at the track when its boosted.

BTW check my sig and someone buy my slicks so I can actually get it boosted!

 

Well I don't have either of those engines, but I thought I'd contribute anyways.

I run either 93 or 94 in my b18c.

I believe that the b16 is supposed to run on premium, but 87 shouldn't effect it negativley.

 

94 on my ZC.

 

damn bay area, the highest octane i have seen around is 91.....

nahh, a d16z6 or y8 doesnt need high octane.
as a general rule of thumb just follow what the tach says (or the tach in the car the motor came in said) ie: unleaded fuel only or premium unleaded only, cant go wrong that way.

 

87 on the ZC. Didn't have any problems in 2 years.

 

93 all the time. As soon as I'm turbo I will probably mix in a little turbo blue(110) with every fill up. When I get something that will control my timing I might bump it back down to just 93.

 

im in the same boat 91 for my boosted ZC runs excellent. I'll see how well it runs next week on the Dyno.

by the way how many pounds do you pay for a Liter(is that what it is sold in) of 95 octane in the U.K.?

May I ask why you think your car will "run better" on 102 Octane?
