Default A little help on choosing a Civic

Hey guys, I'm new here. I have been saving up for quite a while now and I have decided that at the end of the year I will go out and finally buy my Civic. As I am only a novice at his at the moment, the problem is I don't know which one to choose. My budget is at the most $10,000 Australian dollars so that equals up to just over $5000 US. So what is in your guys opinion the best to go for on the means that I would like to do it up quite a bit and when I finally get the money turbocharge it. Is the EG the way to go or could I afford a EK and can I afford one with VTEC with the money I have. Going on this what would you say is the best Civic to get considering I want both really good performance and looks?

i would find an eg hatch for cheep...then swap in a d16z6 or y8 and later on turbo it. Or even just build up the z6 or y8 for a reliable n/a fairly quick car.

What do civic go for used over there?

If you want to keep the motor that came in the car, look for one with a VTEC engine. Used engines for the SOHC vtec engines can be picked up cheaply and then rebuilt with sleeves and a build bottom end. Turbocharging that with 15+ psi of boost will be a fun car that can get you in all kinds of trouble!

I would pick either a hatch or a coupe....it all depends on your preference for the body style. Plenty of performance parts for any civic from 2000 on back.

buy an integra, because all integras have DOHC motors, wich unbuilt produce more hp turbocharged.

stock to stock it will be more fun,
i love eg's but sohc dont have as much potential.
i will be buying an eg soon, but i am swapping in a fully built ls motor and turboing that. expecting about 380whp

thats about a 6-8K project. depending on turbo parts and what condition civic i get

if your on a budget sohc vtec turbo would be better. An ls is more costly than a d16y8 or z6 and also costs more to turbo.

Plus civics are lighter!

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm pretty sure now I will go for a 92-95 EG, I will look for a VTI one here but I'm guessing they will be pretty rare here so whats the best one to go for? And if I want to turbo it is it better just getting a average EG and then doing all the mods to it or is the VTI the way to go?

Can you guys tell me why you are all recommending SOHC engines? Why is that better than getting a DOHC B16A or whatever?

It's not. If you can get a Civic with the B16 (VTI?), go for it.

edit: We've never had a B16 powered EG in the states.
