What to do with $3500?
okay i just graduated, and i got 3500 (no more, no less) from my pops to work on my 91 teg, i decided i wanted to work on the motor, someone told me to go to a B16 but i dont want to go 1.8 to 1.6, i want to go LS/Vtec but im really concern about reliability, mostly because i know how i drive my car, 3500 is the most i can spend, i really like to go all motor LS cause of the torque and since im into autocross and not drag, i think it might suit my needs, but if anyone out there knows anything else i can do, please let me know, i live in southern california, so anyone know any good shops or something that i can work with, i also need this all to be done between 7/2 to 7/16. this being i need my car for work as a necessity, and i'm going on vacation to hawaii on july 2nd and coming back the 16th, so basically i'll drop my car off wherever i'll get the work dont and when i come back i can pick it so that theres no down time when i get back, please help this little integra get some muscles asap, thanks to whoever reads this...peace
get a s13 fastback (1500) & drop in a s13 sr20det (2000 full front clip) . would get you 225HP rearwheeldrive... like to drift? hehe
really though thats a lot of dead presisdents.. do want you want & enjoy!

for that price, get a GSR block, get a b16 head with upgraded cams and valvetrain, then get ITR or GSR transmission, and some rollerwave pistons mounted on eagle rods... then you will feel the POWAH! and if later on you wanted to boost, it would be as simple as changing out the pistons.
if your autocrossing then i dont think you should go with an LSVTEC setup. im not saying thats its not reliable..because if you built a B18C the same way some people try to put together an LSVTEC, then it would be just as problematic...but because of the r/s ratio it would be better to keep high rpm in short burst (ie drag racing) then to keep it at high rpm through long turns on an autocrossing track....
B18C for autox.

I would go with the s13 if you're really into drifting, and you can still sell your DA and get more cash.

sr20 is a nice swap, i'm not gonna lie...but it'll be IMPOSSIBLE to get that thing to pass smog. its not as easy as getting a BAR sticker on a b16 or h22. i mean, you can...but it'd be a hell of a hassle, and a lot of time n' money spent (same process used to get black n' grey market cars over here such as skyline, ferrari, older lotus etc)
Although you probably wont like my suggestion you should save the money for a rainy day. Racing is a highly addictive drug, in my opinion more so than heroin or anything else for that matter once you get a taste you will not be able to stop spending you hard earned money !!! It is a vicious cycle that will never end !!!! There is no cure and I know that Iam going to be a life long addict. aaahhh!! screw that do whatever it takes to make your car fly!!
Well if really like to auto x what is your suspension set-up like? brakes? how many sets of wheels and tires do you have? what is your tranny set-up like? how much money do you have set aside for events etc...? Is your LS already supercharged?
