Either you had to wade through a crapload of useless stuff, or you didn't search correctly. ANyway....
At least on the 4th gens, pull the carpet back from the upper toe area of the passengerside footwell. You'll see the ECU. Turn the ignition to ON, and count the flashes in the plastic window.

pull up the carpet on the passenger floorboard, you will need to pull the outermost corner out & you will see a metal box on the floorboard w/ a little LED window- your ecu will flash the codes using that light. your car will at least need to be turned on to the accesory postioin to show codes. hth
