Default Autometer pro shift lite install question

Ok first just wanna say thanks to HT, I already did a search and found the info I needed to install it on my GSR. My question is this... someone told me that when you start your car its supposed to light up for a few seconds as a check to make sure it works, well mine doesn't light up when I start the ignition but it works fine besides that, turns on when I hit the designated rpm's and everything. Is there a certain way you have to hook it up to light up?? Well its not a big deal to me as long as it works but it would be nice to know that the bulb still works without having to hit 8K . Any help appreciated.

you plug one of the light wire wrong, its supposed to light up when you turn on the ignition. check this, take the key out of the ignition and dont even start it up, press that red button ( where you set your rpm ) and see if it moves, if it moves, that means there's constant power to the autometer. That's what happend to my civic and i went on vacation for bout 2 weeks, drain my battery out. If you drive it daily the alternator is going to charge the battery constantly and you dont think its draining it. I think the white wire is the light, correct me if im wrong, but it supposed to go underneath one of the fuse box ( look alike phone plugs). play with it, Trial and error. Or go to autometer.com

There is no red button, I have the pro shift lite that just uses pills. So what you're saying is there is not supposed to be constant power to the shift lite or else the battery will drain eventually?? So that means that there is constant drain on my battery because I have constant power to the lite... but why if the light isn't actually on???

According to the instructions I got from HT and from autometer's website everything should be hooked up right.
There's just 3 wires, black one (ground), Green wire- connected it to light blue wire behind cluster, Red wire- to white wire with blue stripe from the radio harness. Once again the shift lite works fine when I hit the designated rpm's. I noticed when I first connected all the wires it did light up for a few seconds but it will not light up when I start the ignition... so thats how I know that there is constant power to it. Anyone else have any help?

Ive installed one and it didnt light up every time you turned on the car. I dont think its supposed to and I think that it would get pretty annoying if it did.

I have mine installed, and everytime I turn the ignition on it lights up for a brief second and then turns off. I don't mind it at all, it just lets ya know that it is ready to be put to use.

Thanks for the input fellas, so I'm not the only one who has this problem then. Well I wouldn't mind if it lit up for a brief second when I turned on the ignition cuz that would let me know that its working instead of hitting 8K and not realizing it becuase maybe the bulb went out or something

So if anyone knows anything about how its supposed to be wired to light up when ignition is turned on please post the info. thanks

You may have it wired so that its getting power all the time (ie even when the car is off).

That way it would only flash the one time you plugged in the power/ground, and doesn't when you turn the ignition.

Where do you have the power wire running too?

You are correct, I'm pretty sure there is power all the time because it only turned on that one time when I first wired it.

I have the power wire running to the white w/blue stripe wire from the radio harness... is this wrong?? I got the instructions from here on HT on how to wire it so if its wrong can you tell me the right way it should be wired so that there is not always power running through it.

Run it to the fuse box instead, there is a place above the fuses where you can plug in a female connector. Try a few of them till you find one that is only powered when the ignition is turned.

Thanks for the input fellas , I found the right connection by the fuse box that gives it power only when ignition is switched so it works properly now.
