cooling fans not working...help im overheating...
my 90 civic dx auto is overheating now that the weather is hot...my girl normally drives the car and today she calls me and says the car is about to overheat...i went home for lunch and checked it out...coolant was a lil low but the fans never kick in...the cooling fan or the a/c fan..fuses is good so im guessing its the relay...are they the two right to the left of the rad and if so is there anyway to fix them temporarily or connect the fans to the ign so that they stay on as long as the car is on....any help here is well appreciated..thanks...

is the thermostat good? warm the car up and touch the lower radiator hose. if the hose is hot, then your thermostat works, if not, get a new thermostat. do this first, the thermostat goes out quite frequently on hondas. then report back.
yes the lower radiator hose was hot..i touched it yesterday when trying to figure the problem out..but will that cause the cars fans not to come on...neither one turn on what so ever

The fan has 2 wires, power and ground, I cut the wire's and put ground to the chassis and power to the ignition fuse under my dash.
The fan will stay on the whole time the car is running but whatever, this has worked for me for 2 years now.

ok...looking under the hood i have two fans..which is which..left a/c right cooling fan correct...just in case i end up having to hard wire it which i dont want to do i rather fix the problem correctly..i had an old mazda 323 that has the fans wired up that way..3 months later the car burnt to the ground...
a/c fan is on driverside, cooling fan is on the passenger side near the battery, when i get off of work i will look for the relays and such and help you out
edit: also on the back of the block is the fan switch check that also and make sure that is still good

thanks a million if i dont respond till tomorrow its cause i left work..lol..but are u sure cause when im looking into the bay i see some a/c lines running to the fan on the left/passengers side and the one on the right/drivers side does not and has a relay attached to it right where the fans connector is....
i pulled my AC **** out like a month ago so ya im sure, cooling on pass, ac on driverside, another way you will know is what side is your timing belt on?? the compressor is right by all your belts so that means that the ac would be on that side, and plus the ac fan is smaller than the cooling fan
ok..just want to make sure...so other than a relay what would cause neither fan to turn on..wouldnt the a/c fan come on once i put the a/c on(even though it doesnt have any freon in it and blows hot) ...thanks
the cooling fan relay is right behind the passenger side headlight. its attached to the chassis.
i had 2 relays go bad on me. there is a resistor inside the relay that, after a while, gets corroded and loses contact. i soldered a new resistor on the 2 i had and they work great now. everything was free since we had a similiar size resistor at work.
for your case, all i can think of is that both relays might be bad.

i seen those yesterday when tryng to find the problem..but i beleive there are two right there in that spot your referring to...maybe i"ll check radio shack for that resitor and solder it myself as well once i find out which relay it is...thanks for ya suggestion...
there is also a fan switch sensor located on the motor. it's a green plug (2 wires) located underneath or close to the distributor mounted on the cyl head.

thats the coolant temp sensor, there is actually two sensors on the motor, the one under the dizzy (the one ef lsvtec is talking about) and there is another one on the back of the block, the one on the back is the fan switch
