simple bolt on turbo kit will put you in the 250whp range on a h23a motor running high 13s on the quarter.

a bone stock swap on a h22a will put you running 15.1s on the quarter mile with about 170whp.

It really depends how much money you have and what your goals are.

well i was gonna drop an h22 and then turbo that....but someone told me it would be better to turbo my h23 (lower compression).....What I'm worried about it the life of my h23....ya know I'd just kinda like to have a motor w/30k on it than 102k ya know? I'm torn

do a cylinder leakdown test on your motor to make sure its holding its compression up properly. If it is, go ahead and boost it... but no more then 8psi once tuned.

I have the same problem. The way i'm thinking about this is.....drive my 120k+ miles engine to the ground and get the 30k miles vtec motor.

I'd love to get the turbo...but that's the same price as a new engine. I'm not feeling my car making it past 150k+ miles on boost.

if it were my money, i would also get a low mileage motor. FI promotes problems, reguardless of how well it is tuned. And when a motor is old, your just asking to replace more things in the near future.

Putting a turbo on a fact. NA motor requires massive retuning to get everything in sync so you are making usable power. 1) Finding good cams for turbo app. is diff to imposs. 2) Valve overlap: a VTEC's bonus is two cam profiles, hence you have a change in timing when the VTEC kicks in and herein lies the prob w/ turboing a VTEC: you either optimize for one of the cam profiles( i.e. up top when the turb is spinnin and get nothing down low) or you compromise between the two.
Much simpler to turbo a non-VTEC motor, this is why most factory turbo cars do not sport variable timing, i.e. mitsu

I tend to disagree...

a VTEC motor will put down 20% more power at the same boost. The only downside is VTEC can tend to be more diffucult to tune, and at VTEC engagement, there may be boosting/fueling problems. Overall, if tuned properly, you should have a very good powerband and 20% or more hp than the same setup on the h23.

As for what I think you should do... rebuild YOUR motor. Neither the H23 or the H22 are good motors to turbo. So build one that is... it will SAVE you money in the long run, cause I promise if you turbo either one stock, it will blow eventully.

i had the same problem and i decided to rebuild my h23 which is a lil more than a used h22 but if you plan on boostin either way your goin to be able to run more boost on the built h23 than a stock h22. what kind of turbo are you lookin at and what kind of #s are you wantin to put down and do you have a shop around to rebuild. im gettin my motor back this week and i still have to order my turbo ill keep you updated
