It's basically a stock Type-R motor. I think (If I remember correctly)

they use a different head-gasket. They dissasemble the engine, spec and balance

everything, and run tighter tolerances. You could make alot more power for much

cheaper. :

Not worth the money in my opinion

There is the normal balanced engine which come with standard red covers... The yellow top are complete engines built to your/their specs... Its got other cams/pistons/valve springs... these are the high compression/revving engines...

I personally think its worth the money... zero mileage enige completly balanced... your car would be as new if you also rebuild the chassis and the rest

Inline Four sell the spoon longblocks:

b16a is $5,800..........and the b18c is $6,300!!!!!!!!

Quality engines=yes, worth that kind of pricetag=no

You could have a quality and reliable engine with alot more power for much less.

Spoon quality Spoon prices

If you look in the Spoon catalog the prices for the b16a , b16b and b18c are all the same... so I think inline4 is overpricing the b18c

There is also TODA and Mugen to look at as well. If you are going to drag race and daily drive..... the spoon/toda/mugen engine is going to be very reliable, put out more power than stock but there will be faster people out there. All three companies really do road race motors from what i understand. They will build to your spec... they are pricey... but if its for a strick race only car... it might be worth having their knowledge while breaking into the sport... at least you dont have to worry about your motor.

Spoon motors are not made for drag racing, they are made for circuit racing and thats why they don't have too much hp and their gear ratio is really close. U can use their knlowledge but don't buy a Spoon motor for a street racing u will get smoked by some other all motor set ups.

Remember is not how much HP's u have but who is the better driver.

IMHO spoon create motors are overpriced.

for that price i would rather have a JUN create longblock.
or have IB build me a lsvtec

Spoon engine = Total waste of money.

You can build a much better motor with half of the money you spend on a Spoon engine.

There's been such a lengthy discussion about this. Why does it cost so much? It's because it is NEW.

Some people want to buy new stuff just like how some people have bought brand new ITR heads and brand new ITR shorty's.

Check the prices between Acura dealer and some of the authorized Spoon dealers and you might be surprised for something BRAND NEW will cost less than your Acura dealer.

I'm not defending Spoon but merely stating the facts. You can build a MUCH better CAR vs. buying a BRAND NEW Type-R (as an example).

i wouldn't get anything less than a spoon...i mean, paul walker knows his stuff!!

anyways..spoon just gets new honda longblocks + trannies and balances and blueprints them, i believe to the .1 gram or so. (whatever their measurement is) i believe they are for mostly endurance races.

hth,
mike

The spoon motors are awesome because its basicly a better than stock B18C thats brand new. Thats all there is to it really. I would be more interested in their yellow tops that they build with more of their products.

Dunno about 12 second... Unless it's a h22 in a crx, but for 6300, you could have a pretty good NA setup thats reliable, as apposed to paying 6300 bucks for a name, and free service(i'm guessing on the service)...
