How long to do a tranny swap?
I was just wondering how long it takes on avg. to do a tranny swap, putting a y8 tranny on the y7 block. Any helpful hints that might help along the way are greatly appreciated.

Boy, I do it nascar stylee, in and out of the garage in 20 seconds. JK when I changed out my clutch it look about 4 hours. Not too hard just time consuming i guess. Make sure you have something sturdy to support the motor after you remove the tranny mount. I had a piece of wood ontop of a jack.......(whats up unstable).
if u have all the right tools, know what your doing, and run into no problems... id say an 1 - 1.5 hours
power tools help alot too

If you have the money for the clutch and flywheel I'd just do it since you have it out. A clutch install is pretty self explanatory also so should be pretty easy. If you dont have the money and just like working on the car, you can wait and repeat the whole tranny removal process at a later date. All up to you.
I agree, it's not that much work and even when I did my first clutch install like 3 years ago it took me 3 hours with hand tools... Now with air I can do it in ~1.5, which isn't too bad... Back to the point if you have the money to do a flywheel do it... It allows your motor to rev more freely (less rotational mass) but isn't going to help you any power wise... Since you're just working with an SOHC motor and there isn't really any OE cams that you could use, thing like the flywheel are what you can spend money on... With say a CTR/ITR cams in a B series VTEC motor you can make your car a lot faster than a flywheel would be for cheaper... The only thing I gotta say about flywheels is go with Cromoly... I've seen/had all too many problems with aluminum ones as the material is a lot softer (with an agressive clutch you'll see the flywheel-crank holes begin to ovalize)... Aluminum = Clutchmaster, Fidanza, etc. Cromoly = ACT
Just my $0.02... Good Luck
