Default Good Beater Car??

Yes I know this is the Type R forum but if I posted it in the Civic or Accord forum I would get biased answers.

Looking to spend about $7k, what would be the best car for reliability and mileage? Looking at Civics, Sentras and Corollas.

Thanks for the advice and I apologize since I know this is not the best forum but I figure its Saturday night and maybe kinda slow? haha

Jeff

If you could find one in good condition ...

Sentra SE-R (1st or even 2nd gen). Bad part about the SE-R is that it could turn into another money pit.

For 7k you have a lot of options. I would go for a 96+ civic ex or lx whatever. if it was me id get an automatic for the hell of it Dont you think 7k is a lot for a beater though? If it was me id do under 4k for sure.
Best of luck to you!

I'm selling the Type R for college and looking to get something cheap as a primary car

I haven't been able to find anything DECENT with under 100k miles on it from Honda in the mid 90s for under $5k in So Cal

Best bet yet is a 97 Civic EX coupe auto with 53k miles on it around here for ~ $7k

7k and you're calling that a beater

Shoot, I though we were looking for good buys under 1k.

I was fortunate enough to pick up a 92 escort with 38k miles for $65

try to find a crv like a 97. they have very little problems. i work in parts at a honda dealer and i think that out of all the hondas the crv has the least problems. i have been trying to find one but they are out of my budget but i think u should be able to find one for 7. saw one with 280k on it no problems just need t belt and another with over 300k that one needed a head gasket and t belt. they seriously are great cars if you like the styling....

I've got a 90 crx with 100k miles for $2k. If I had 7 grand though I'd get 96+ civic hatch or 95+ integra. Sporty but functional

I think I narrowed it down to a 96+ Civic EX, as I can pick one up for under $7k with under 70k miles on them in pretty good condition..

I guess when I said "beater" I should have used a better word. Worth it to pay Honda to take a look at the car to make sure everything is legit?

Or anyone else have any cars in the that price range I should be looking at?

You can buy my 89 CRX. Its a good beater. It actually has stuff done to it, I just don't drive it anymore. Its not registered at the moment. I'd sell it to you as a non op for a mear 3G's. It stands out a bit cuz its orange, but the motor is strong, its a JDM B16 w/AEM cold air, Brospeed headers & exhaust, GSR brakes all around, fal windows, fluidyne radiator, AEM fuel rail, some 17" rims, WW body kit, projector headlights, V-spec seats, roll bar. It was in the Long Beach SEMA show in 2000, in the Fluidyne/FAL booth. I'm in San Diego.

AE86 = RWD Corolla chassis from the mid 80s. all the wanna-be retarded "drifters" want this chassis after watching Initial D about 500 times too much.

An AE86 isn't a horrible beater, but not the best either. Neither is a civic. Anything with a solid aftermarket will become a money pit for one that likes to modify vehicles.

For a beater, old Volvos ar g00t

Hachi Roku oWnS jOO!!! Takumi and Iketani need a life

A beater is a sub 3G car I would say and a daily can go for as little as 2500 all the way up to....???? A beater is a car that runs but wont send you into a depression should you get rammed by Dodge Ram So a $1500 85 CRX would qualify as a beater....until you came across a first gen B16 and a day off....then its another money pit

Car guys have to buy trucks/jeeps to fight the "car guy" infection but its only temporary...eventually you will mod anything you buy simply because if it breaks....why not improve it? lol
