Default MAP Sensor (code 3), VAFC? Help, por favor.

Hey guys. Well - I am throwing a MAP code.

When I turn the car on it idles hardcore, then settles @ 1500. And it doesnt sound happy.

This all happenend completely randomly. Quick story: I always take out my VAFC when i leave the car as a theft prevention technique. So I came back to my car last night, after having driven it all day, and asked my roomate to click the VAFC in. Well he forced it backwards for a while, then turned it over and clicked it in. It was pissed. Here is the key -- the VAFC is NOT reading throttle percentage. Ive checked the wires...and there is no sign of disconnection. I havent gotten to the ECU yet...and Ive checked all the pins on the connectors.

Anyone...can you let me know how these are interrelated??
Thank alot...Im scared. I love my car.

Is it safe to drive with the code. I assume so...I suppose it just behaves horribly.

Well ****. Im also throwing a Code 21 and a Code 15. Now what the hell.

Ugh.

Which is ignition output signal and vtec solenoid stuff.

So Im safe to assume this is ALL VAFC related then, correct.
Ive been running it fine for 4 months or something. Been tuned for 2. This is odd.

Is the VAFC still reading all the parameters correctly? -tach, Vti/Vto, TPS

Turn the ignition to the ON position and run a sensor check through the VAFC in the etc. group.

Reconfirm your codes by resetting the ECU.

Checked the signals. RPM is good. Fuel correction is good. Throttle is not showing.
Intake manni pressure is -760 w/o the car on, didnt want to turn the car on running 3 codes Ben.

<--- freaking.

I do the same thing with my VAFC when ever i park my car!! What you have sounds like some bent prongs on the VAFC harness that you need to straighten out!!

Hey Steve -- good call. I DID have that a couple days ago - RPM wasnt reading. But this is different. It plugs in just fine. I appriciate it though.

Do you have ideas...? I dont know if I should drive the car right now...But I need to go back to Cincinnati in 3 days...and this is finals week..

Mods sorry for bumping this again - but I am getting frusterated that the "which exhaust" threads are stealing importance from actual problems

Have you reset the ECU, rechecked for codes, then taken it for a quick spin in a lot, and then rechecking the codes?

-760mmHg is just fine for around idle. Manifold pressure should increase (towards 0) as throttle input percentage increases. If it doesn't, then either the VAFC is receiving a faulty signal (and therefore sending a faulty signal) or the MAP is sending a faulty voltage signal.

Ben -- took the car for a 5 minute drive. Its in hardcore safe mode. Idle will not drop under 1500. Manifold pressure is CONSTANT -760 through the drive, not increasing with TP per the usual. Car is misfising frequently as well (code 15 is ignition related).

Reset the ECU. No deal. Im going to have to take out the VAFC and try again.
Soldering looks good...no clue whats going on still.

I need to drive the car to Cincinnati on thursday....and I have no time to do anything this week (finals week)....I just hope i can get it home so i can work on it.

Somebody needs to compensate you for a VAFC if you ask me.

You're not gonna see him next semester anyways, right?
