b16 or b18 into 88-91 hatch????
ok i have a 88-91 hatch. im on a pretty tight budget. i know if i get a b16 its faster then a ls stock. but if i decide to get an ls i wanan get the better one. not the b18a but the b18b. i heard the b18b is better performance wise. then later on down the road i was going to turbo the ls. so is that the right ls to get and what wiring modifications will i need. thanks a lot
if your hard for cash go ls, u can get a ls for 750 and swaped for under 1500
b16a will cost u more (1250+) but if u can buy a g2 teg (crashed) for like 800 and swap everything over and even do a brake upgrade, you'll be sitting phat for litttle cash

The 92-93 LS motors are rated at 10 more HP then the 90-91 but this is because they are OBD-1. No matter what, it is easier to run a non-OBD motor in an EF. They do make a conversion harness if you really need that 10 extra HP. The B18B motors have a little bigger cams and a little more compression. Just get a B18A unless you can find a B18B for cheap.
I choose the b18b1 in my 91 si....... It has the power down in the RPM of daily driving.... b16 motors you gotta rev the **** out of them to make any kinda power. Also those b16a arent very torquey...
Get a LS with a GSR tranny, you'll love every moment, i know i do

install wise, if your never going to upgrade the motor, get the b16. a b16 will pull harder than a ls when both stock. but the ls has more potential, but will be less reliable. Building a b16 is effective because it alreayd has vtec, so you dont to convert to vtec. Tmany peoples ls/vtec conversions are shawddy, but never theless, they both cost about the same. and b16 motors arent very torquey, but ls motors arent very horsepowery, hahahaha

Who needs vtec to make power.... LS/Turbo is about the best bang for the buck in B-series swaps....
