Anybody know of some good jack stands and a floor jack? Is there anything I should look for when I am buying one? I did a search on floor jack and got nothing, but I could have sworn this was talked about before. Thanks for the help.

If only the jacks that say "Craftsman" were lifetime too.
I believe the warranty is for a year. Save those receipts.

 

AUTOZONE BABY! 10 bucks get's you some decent jack stands... I've never had any problems with them... me and about 4 of my friends all own a few sets each.
As for the floor jack... make sure you find a LOW PROFILE one... otherwise, if you lower the car... GOOD LUCK trying to get that jack under there. *sigh*

 

Nicest reasonably priced low profile jack that I know of is from Ultimate Garage. Steve also sells and builds some of the finest garages in North America. He's also the only Mov'it dealer in the states.

I just got a set of 2 jack stands and a craftsman 3 ton jack for $47 open box...the thing was never used...retails for like 129 or something...had to share, pretty cool set.

i got a 3 ton jack, 2 stands, and a rolling thing all for 150

Sears here too. got the stands, the trolly/floor jack ... later on I went back to get the SUV jackstands for my Jeep and found that the smaller ones make great chocks for 33x12.50" wheels.

That jack is the most awkward thing to carry. With no garage I'm always hauling it back and forth between the shed and the parking lot.

 

my sears special came with a little plastic handle that pops onto the top of the jack. it makes carrying easier, but damn it's heavy, anybody know of a mugen carbon fiber jack? haha!

Got the same "NASCAR" edition jack and stands as Boba. Got them for $89! They were already on sale for $99, and if you join the Craftsman Club, you get 10% off everything, even sale prices!

Only problem is, I bet the 3 ton wouldn't work on a lowered car. Mine barely slides under the front lip.

 

Make sure you get a jack that has a max height of 20". The extra height will come in handy when working under your car (with jack stands, of course).

For lowered cars:

 

FBP, that jack is from Griot's and it's like 90+ lbs. Forget that I'll take the one from Steve D any day, plus it's cheaper.

I got the same ones in the pic from boba...got a "killer" open box deal at $47!!! Mine's lowered about an inch and I didn't have any problem getting it under the side (little tall to fit under the lip for the OEM jack though) but it slides under the car fine...


Monkey_truckR...what does the handle look like for the jack? I could use one, b/c that jack is heavy as hell and not very easy to carry...I'd be interested in that

i don't know if you can buy the handle, it's just a u-shaped plastic piece that clips to the bolt that the jack arm pivots upon. it came with my sears companion jack. hold on, lemme pull out my trusty digicam....
