Default VTEC knock (Loud!)

I've noticed this a few other times, but it's getting louder. When the VTEC kicks in, I here a loud metal to metal type knock. When the rpms go back down I here another similar knock. Besides the noise of the knock, it seems to be running fine. I've had two GSR's and am quite used to the feel when the VTEC kicks in, but the noise is'a scarin me. Any insight would be appreciated.

Ok, thanks for reminding me of the obvious fact that I've got to check my oil! Shortly after reading your reply yesterday, I went out and checked the oil level. I thought there is no way it could be low. I've been changing my own oil since say 8yrs old(dirt bike until I was 16). It's been say 3,500m since my last change and I've never seen it leak a drop or blow a bit out the exhaust up to this point(110k). She was 2qts low!!! It took several hours for my co-workers to pry me out of the fetal position from under my desk, I can't believe this, I need some medication bad! This can't happen to me, I can change my oil w/ my eyes closed. So, I'm still in denial. I searched for 'oil' on this board, and maybe have an idea why it was low. I'm using 5/30 Mobil1 and it seems many others have seen a loss of oil w/o having a leak or burining it out the tailpipe. Maybe I missed a qt. on the last change, stupid, stupid, stupid. After getting the level right yesterday, no more knock during the vtec switch at all. But what I'm wondering now is, how bad have I screwed up. I know that this could end up really bad, and my oil checking habits have now changed for life. It seems ok for now though, I can't see any smoke even if I hold it at the redline for many seconds and decelerate hard. I'm going to watch the level very closely from now on and I'm gonna go look for that medication now.

quit driving it. If it`s a spun bearing you are just making it worse. get it checked out asap!
