Default Question

Ok I just got my Civic into town, Problems.........Please help so I know what to fix.....Ok well driving in if we turned on the lights we would lose all power to the car, it would slow down to almost nothing but as soon as we turned the lights off we could drive pretty much normally.........could it be the battery not holding a charge......brand new altenator installed........ Any suggestions would be appreciated......I searched but I couldn't find anything.........My car is a 1990 civic HB/DX Thanks for all help..........Peterboroughkid

It wouldn't be the battery, a car can run fine with no battery at all if the alternator / wiring is in good shape.

Make sure all of your connections are secure and not corroded. make sure all of your ground wires are connected properly. there should be 3, one from the battery to the car body and then to the tranny case, one from the upper radiator support to the valve cover, and one from the starter to the fender by the fuse box. Then start checking your lights for shorts.
