Default Bodywork, Part 2

Well, took me a good 2 hours just to wirebush one quarter down to bare metal, how long did it take to primer? About 5 friggin minutes...

Well, I got ONE quarter panel, next time I update I should have all the doors off, interior fully stripped and half the primering done at least. But right now, I just took the front off (bumper, fenders, lights, bumper cover)

Heres some pictures for your viewing pleasure!

Whole body shot *Duh

Looking pretty good, from here you cant tell but it has 3 minor dings I'm goina have to remove... This is what bondo was made for! Not plugging up holes!

The largest rust spot on the whole car, I'm just goina sheet metal something in there (weld) and go crazy with the bondo until it looks right.

Cant really tell but it looks like a car hit it right here, another spot I'm goina have to take my brand new primer off of to redo, goina drill a hole and see if I can pull it back out most of the way.

why you using a wire wheel???

Use a DA sander or just hand sand it. And don't prime it until you get all the sheet metal done. Now you don't know where that rust starts or ends.

And don't use rattle can primer because it doesn't seal out the moisture....

that primer is not can crap, thats bare metal Du Pont primer, why wont a wire wheel do the job ok? Also, I TOOK THE PICTURES WHEN THE PAINT WAS STILL WET. Thats why its glossy. Also, I'm taking out all of the windows anyway so I don't need the seals, I'm just worried about the glass and the primer can be taken off of that real easy.

My air compressor by the way, pretty much sucks though so I cant use an air sander...

Doesnt really matter, I'm taking the tube out anyway, getting a new cap and painting the end of the tube flat black. Any more questions for the guy everybody is claiming has no clue what hes doing?

Why not? Its how I like to do things, take it all off and start fresh. Why get a scratch on your car and have it show up blue?

I dont get it either, why would you spray paint a window... Regardless if it comes off easy or not(which i dont think it will), just seems like your adding more work thats unneccasery...And why would you spray paint over rust and not take the rust off before your spray paint... Im confused...

JZ - Yeah, I know... That tape line that you see right there, trust me, it wont be there for long, its by a part I'm regrinding.

MrSpills - I didn't get the window like that on purpose, I just go wide with the gun and the window was in the way. I did take most the rust off, I just spray painted over the part I'm goina take out, I have lines currently marking where everything is. I just wanted to get the majority of the panel primered. Alot of people don't like the way I do things and I can understand this.

Heres what you have to figure though, if you take a 1/4 panel down to bare metal and theres a rust hole still there, you just paint over it right now because your only going to add maybe an extra 3 minutes max because you just gotta scrape off that primer around it and take out what you need. Tell me how its different from just grinding the hole and patching it other than you need to take a few seconds out to restrip the new primer around it. Its not like I have to regrind the whole side again and paint the thing once more.

Also, the primer will be off that window in 5 minutes tops. It would take me about that to find something to cover the window with and tape it all down.

From what I see and what your telling me your putting in 100% effort into it. For you doing it yourself its coming out good. Put that money you saved by doing this and get a nice swap Seems like these boards keep getting flooded with more and more negative comments.

Rule of Thumb: If your going to post a negative comment, just stop and move on.

Nicley said man.

I like the approach KooK is taking. If you do something don't half *** it. Do it all and do it right the first time around.

I have no clue about bodywork but it seems like you do do keep us up to date with how she's coming along.

leave bodywork and paint to professionals or atleast some one who has an idea of what they are doing, i dont even kno where to begin with the # of things your donig wrong but i will tell you if you heat your panels up too hot with the wire brush your gonna warp em and your body is gonna be wavy as hell but that probably dont matter cause im assuming you r donig the bondo work and if its anything like your primer work the car is f**ked and of that is etch or vari-prime from dupont you are not supposed to cover the panel like that,GOOD LUCK

Well nice work so far keep us posted on her. As for everyone else I know Aaron and believe me he will have that thing look damn good when he is done. Him and his dad have done a lot of restoration work on VW's and he knows what he is doing. Also when me and my dad repaint and restore things we always take all the paint off down to the bare metal, other wise I don't think you will get a good end result(well at least not in my books). Also if you knew what you where talking about you would know that is not primer from a can. I would not worry about the over spray on the window it will come right off in no time. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.
