Ex tranny on a y7 block
I've heard of some people swapping y8 tranny's onto their y7 blocks because of the shorter gear ratios. I was thinking about doing this, but I was lookin to get a little feedback from people who have it done and how much of a difference did they notice. Also, what is a decent price for a low mileage ex tranny. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Yup, it can be done, and it bolts right up! Great improvement and you could get one for around 250-300 dollars probobally. I would suggest it if your looking to improve your performance on the y7 (like I have done)
Thanks for the fast reply. I have one being offered to me for $250/shipped, its got 20k miles on it. I was thinking about picking it up.

i think its great....somone did research on tranny ratios and figure out that a ex tranny is still longer ratioed than an LS tranny.....
wish we could get b16 ratio or type r ratios......(without buying gears)
as far as install it bolted right up, i got all the hardware, but didnt need it....
all that was needed was the tranny....very easy changover
it takes a bit to get used to from the y7 tranny, since the final drive is different and so is the 2nd and 3rd..... so for a bit my first to 2nd shifts were alitle slow...

Just buy a 4.7 or 4.9 final drive.

I got a 92-95 Si tranny for my Y7, it made a big difference. I think that the going rate is 200-300. You will be happy you did it and whatever harware the Y8 tranny might be missing is interchangeable with the Y7.
