Thats actually not a bad idea not ghetto in my eyes.
As for the tail lights themselves filling up with water I would have to say that the seal around the plastic (where the 2 pieces of the tail light comes together) is bad. Usually the sign of bad rear seals is water getting inside your car not the tail lights. You have to think the bulbs seal all that up pretty good so even if water does get back there it should go inside the car not the tail light.

You can drill a hole in the bottom of the taillights or buy the gaskets at the dealer. I bought the gaskets not to long ago and all of them came out to be @80dollars. You would be better off making your own.

Thats what I did and saved myself 80 bucks. Small hole bottom of taillight, no biggie, no one can see it either.

I found it easier to just use silicone to re-seal the gasket. Works great for me
and prevents water from getting into the car from around the taillight seals.

$80! Man, what dealer did you go to? I just got back from Smithtown Honda over here and got the 2 outer ones and 2 inner ones for $50. I have the same problem and this will definetly clear up the problem. Its common on hondas. I had the same problem on my 92 integra and it solved it fine.

I had the same problem with mine, and I actually used both suggestions given here... I drilled holes in the bottom and put silicone sealant around the gaskets. Haven't had any problems since. Strangely enough, even though I drilled the holes I don't even get condensation inside of the lights, and I live in Louisiana.
i've got both my rear tail lights filling up with water AND when it rains i've got standing water where the spare was (hatch is gutted.) is this from the same seal on each tail light going bad, or two different seals on each light i'm gonna have to replace.
i haven't taken the shizzle apart yet to look and see what all seals where yet, so i don't know. any help would be great.

I have found from looking inside the car while it's raining to be a combination of things happening at once, at least in the case of my 3 CRX's, anyway. Yes all 3 leaked
Don't know about you guys
but all 3 leak at what seems to be the hatch joints. This water runs
down the inside of the upper trim pieces. Some drips out of the hatch strut mounts. Some continues on down inside the trim, drips against
the tailight and gasket and once the taillight is full of water it overflows into the spare tire area. I replaced with honda gaskets: tailights and spare area now dry. But still leaking out of hatch strut mounts and now
area behind the seats are wet. Temporary ghetto fix I came up with
is a couple of 7-11 big gulp cups velcroed under hatch joints to catch
the rain, they fill up fast if it's raining hard, like it has been in NJ for the past 2 months. Next project take the headliner off and caulk the roof and hatch joints

Water leaking off the hatch struts is a common problem in CRXs. If you have a sunroof (Si models), try cleaning out the sunroof drains. If you have a DX model (no sunroof), try running a thin strip of clear silicon around the rear washer squirter on the outside. I had the same problem, but I used the silicon on the outside and it worked great. No leaks since then.

Drilling a hole seems like a bad idea.
It doesn't fix the problem of moisture getting into the light so it will lead to rust and corrosion on the bulb sockets.
That's just going to be more headaches and repairs.

recently had this issue with my hatch (and had the same issue years ago with my sedan). Once I update my progress thread with my fix, I'll link it over here.
