Importing an ITR from canada
do you guys think that it would be hard to import an itr from canada? I know they have the championship white itr's for 2001 and I really want one. what do think the taxes would be and the kinds of things I would have to do to get in the U.S? thanx

The most recent possible myth I've heard is that to purchase one it has to have been registered in Canada for a year. This seems kind of odd with all the feel-good NAFTA goings on, but that's what I hear. I suppose trading with someone in Canada would be pretty easy. On that point, be looking for a post to that effect in May of next year.
i live in the states and have a 01 cw itr w/ red seats. the way i got it was i had an auto broker have another auto broker from canada buy it and then sell it to him from which then i bought it from him. they trucked it to seattle for me to pick up brand spankin new. you do have to pay extra taxes... but as far as carb legal and all its fine.
canada and the US have a treaty that wont allow US citezens to buy cars from canada... so if you have a friend in canada have them buy it and sell it to you. i did however have to buy an extended warranty for over a thousand dollars so i would be able to warranty it in the states because honda is the only company that will not allow you to warranty canadian hondas.
was it worth it? hell yeah... you know how many looks i get when people are like where did you get that! not hard to do, you just have to know how to do it.

best to get an auto broker to do it for you, although you'll be paying quite a bit more.
as for emissions and crash worthiness, what you or the broker has to do is get a letter from Honda stating that the vehicle in question, VIN, etc. complies with US emissions and safety laws.
Canadian ITR MSRP for around 31000CAD. You can probably get one for 29000CAD (if you're there to bargain w/ the salesman). Figure in 14% tax in Vancouver, that's 33060CAD. Multiply by 0.65 to convert to USD, and that's 21489USD. Add your state's sales tax on top of that (since you are importing a vehicle) as well as a customs levy. Also, transportation of the car, which could be as high as 1000USD if it is over 2000 miles.

I know but the car looks bad ***!! and JDizzM can you give me your email address so I can talk to you in detail about how you imported the R to the states? I live in Cali so I may have a harder time getting it in thanx
Umm...no...they are nice. I have a canadian cw 01...it helps that my dad's a diplomat. no real problems getting it to the US. But I talked to the dealership- you just need to get documentation stating that it is carb legal and stuff and at the border they just tax you.
