what compression on mini-me ?
i have a friend with a 94 si hb . he threw a rod and i was thinking about buying a d16a6 block and putting his z6 vtec head on it as a temporary fix . any ideas on a cheap alternative to buying another longblock ? if not where can i find a z6 longblock or even a complete block ? sorry i1m new to sohc motors my specialty is b-series.
Yeah, you could definitely replace the blown Z6 block with an A6 block with no problems. The Z6 and A6 block are very similar in design, the major differences are the pistons, and an extra oil control jet (needs to be removed). Your compression ratio will increase to like 9.8:1 due to the pistons. There are a few minor changes inside of the block, but only very minor - you'll notice that they are almost identicle when you compare them (z6 block to a6 block). I think switching to an A6 is an excellent temporary fix for your problem.
I have the A6 block and Z6 head and the final compression ration was 10.432:1, also you need to use a Z6 timing belt, Z6 head gasklet...only problems I found were timing/tuning hassles...but once fixed and dyno tuned you can get upto 135whp...but that's stretching it, although the torque is more than you'd get from a B16a, and mine made 111whp at 2000 rpm...the power is there when you need it...I like it.

a6 pistons = about 9.95:1 CR
z6 pistons = about 9.13:1 CR
stock = 9.2:1
no machining necessary...just a honing is you take the pistons out.

does the z6 run a knock sensor? and also since hes more than likely using the z6 hydro tranny...does that tranny use an intermediate shaft? there is noplace to mount a knock sensor or an intermediate shaft (as far as i know) to an a6 block. those are the only 2 questions that i would have that would need to be answered.
