Default transmission case oil

Just wondering how often the oil in the transmission case should be changed, and how to go about doing it. Reason I'm asking is my GSR's gearbox is starting to feel a little clunky, and I was thinking it might be part of the problem. Maybe the bushings, too?

I don't know if changing your transmission fluid will solve your "clunky" feel, but if you haven't changed it in a while get it try. It is recommended by Honda to change it every 30,000 miles. Make sure you use only Honda MTF fluid. Go to this site for pics and instruction : http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/transfluid/transfluid.html

I asked my local Acura dealership about Honda MTF. The service guy simply told me that it was thick motor oil and that was fine for me to use too. WTF?

Use only Honda MTF for your tranny oil. If it says to do it in the service manual, that's what I'm doing.

Supposedly there are some additives in the Honda MTF. I am not sure how true this is, but I used Honda MTF in my GS and things feel great.

Also, I heard that the older Honda trannies don't need Honda MTF. I have an 89 Civic and the service guy said to use motor oil.

Just tell the parts guy to give you the damn MTF!

Dude just spend a little extra for a peace of mind. I mean you only need to change it every 30,000 miles at worst every 15,000.

NO NO NO!!!!
Use Amsoil Series 2000 fully synthetic oil in your engine and tranny! it is wonderful! i can feel an overall 5% increase throughout the entire powerband as well as shift much smoother and more accurate. it's expensive, but read up on it, it's worth every penny! good luck!
