Default DOT Hoosiers on 17x7?

2001 Prelude SH (stock except for rims)

I have found a guy with some 225/45/17 DOT Hoosier race tires. I have 205/40/17 on the rims now...and they are actually a little small (should be 215's). I'm just wondering if I can get away with running the 225/45 (track only, road course and autoX).

Thanks
Chris

If its a 7" wide rim with 50-40mm offset you should be fine if rubbing is your concern. A DOT Hoosier never heard of them, but then again never researched them. Azenis for STS.

Hoosiers are the tires a lot of profession drag racers use... very good DRAG tires.

Drag racing not welcome here. Corey will beat you to hell if you talk about it, and besides he's not even using them for drag racing so don't provide the comparison.

These aren't drag tires...they are made specifically for road racing.

Here's the link to what I'm asking about...

http://www.hoosiertire.com/rrtire.htm

EDIT 'cause I'm teh suk - after going to the link click on 'specs' under Road Racing and then it's the Sports Car DOT - Radial.

225/45/17 is bigger than stock circumfrence and may rub if your lowered more than 1.5". I find the Hoosiers run especially wide and that a 225 is actually more like a 235. This is actually the size of the DOT race rubber that I'd like to use, so please if you get them post up your findings.

Hey bdb,
Are you a Ebayer? The price has jumped up to $425 (the tires from Hoosier are 200 bucks a piece)...so I'm not going to spend that on a bigger tire, I'll wait and get the 205/40/17. You welcome to the auction if you want the tires. (BTW, it's not my auction and I don't know the guy).
