So my car makes this ticking noise when idling. It's not there all the time. It ticks for a few seconds then it stops for a bit then it ticks again. It seems to be coming from the engine. I did a valve adjustment today and it still does it. Anyone know what it could be?

Could be the LMA's. My B16 does the same thing.

 

Lost motion assemblies? If so what effect does this ticking have? Do I have to worry about this?

 

If it's not right, it's not good. I don't know how bad it is though.

On my engine, there are a few valves where I can wiggle the center rocker arm up and down. The others are much more firm. I've never heard of it causing anything to break, but it must be causing things to wear if the rockers are slapping around in there.

 

same **** happened to my engine d16z6, now i am doing my B20 vtech

 

I also noticed that the ticking is quite prominent from 3000rpm to about 4500rpm. It gets kinda loud then even if I rev it in neutral. It's driving me bananas...
