BMW and i believe all OEM HIDs have a self leveling device, if im correct it has a thingy on the rear suspension to figure out how much to lower the lights so it dont pop into someone's eye...
BMW HIDs, been done before, make sure you center the gas packet where the filament use to be on the halogen

Talking about stealing, now this HIDs trend is getting out of hands. My acura dealer is getting hit by pros stealing blasters
out of CLs. Thats all they take and leaving behind whole head lights on the ground. I am getting more and more sick of this
Import scene.

hmmm....maybe i should be alittle more clear......if any of you have seen it...the current 3 series Bmw's HID socket or bulb base is round all around and has a little notch that goes in.....whereas our 9006 bulb has three tabs that stick out so when you put it in the socket of the headlight, you turn and it locks in place.....my question is can i dremel etc the Bmw bulb to make it the shape of the 9006 bulb so it'll fit snugly in our sockets??? i hope this is clear...
I've done it. Actually R134 was very helpful. I used a dremel to mod my bulb....Kinda hard to explain. I'll try to get some better pics.
Left is the factory BMW bulb. Right is a modded bulb.
The result
But for a quick answer to your question...No you can't just cut new notches in the stock bulb. You have to move the ring down a bit so the beam is still correct(gas pocket in the same area as where the fillament would be) or else it will look like crap and glare. You basically grind the BMW bulbs base a bit and slide a 9006 ring (hacked off the stock 9006 bulb).

doesn't the philips give out pure white but the bmw's give out a purplish tint??? or do you have to break the philips set in inorder to get the purple tint??
Working at a BMW dealership does have it's perks!
Don't you still need the converter, likein the philips kit? I don't see how just changing the bulb will give the desired look without a change in the electrical system?
what type of dollar amount are we looking for this project, assuming I walk into a BMW dealership and get the lights?
So far, this is very intriguing, but I would like some more "how to" info on how to do this...
thanks guys...good topic

Agreed....this is a good topic, and I would also be interested in more information on how this can be done. IE: step by step for ignoramuses like myself, as well as approx. costing.
thx.
thx.
we did my friends h.i.d's in his gsr and the easiest way to make it fit is....if you take your stock bulb out...and pull the little rubber ring off..you will see 3 screws holding a plastic " O " ring....u take the o ring off...stick the bulb in...put the oring back in and walla! perfect fit...i had to cut my stock bulbs up to make mine fit into my EK but well worth it
well you would need the ballast..without it u cannot run the hid bulb..the ballast is what fires up the bulb with like 8.5 jiggawatts of power
....also..you need...silicone...a good duct tape....2 sandwich bags..and a few 10mm bolts...
heres how we did my friends M3 H.I.D.'s into a Y2kgsr (dats his hondatech sn too)
1.unclip the stock bulb
2.remove the ring over the bulb housing...it turns so u can pop it off
3.take the stock bulb out
4.remove the 3 tiny phillips head screws holdin a plastic o ring
5.place the hid bulb inside the housing (make sure its already plugged into ballast)
6.put the oring back on...(the fit will be tight due to the hid plug...but will fit)
now for wiring...you take your stock clip....and splice the red and black...dont cut this plug off cus if youre hids blow out...at least u can just plug your old bulbs back in....
use the sandwich bags to put the ballast and the small box into...wrap em up tiiiite and use the duct tape to seal up the bags...and find a mounting spot to mount up the ballasts....your engine bay is filled with spots to mount a 10mm bolt...u want to put it in a area that dosent really get affected by water...
oh by the way..i forgot..basically...silicone the crap outta every plug...this really helps to fight off moisture that will end the life of your hids....after that..basically its all about adjusting your headlights to get em to light up good enough so that you can see but dont blind the crap outta everyone...
BTW....if its not in a lexus..bmw...or benz...there is no self adjusting...unless you call your hand a 10mm socket self adjusting..hehe

How much? I know that retail upgrade for Xenon is $500 when you order the car. If the price is between 300-400, then it is probably worth the upgrade. Otherwise after HID is pretty good price at a low 500. However, I have heard the there is a company out there that makes an amplifier for headlight. Anybody seen one?

dont be stealin them off my car punk
