Default What do you guys think about this all motor set up?

I'm thinking about getting a hatch for a second car and building an all motor b18c for it. What do you guys think about this? What kind of power do you think it will make?

b18c1 block
ctr pistons
stock rods
2 layer headgasket
p&p b16a head
ctr cams
itr valvesprings
Hondata
DC itr header

I was hoping for a little more than 190whp.

i dunno too much but wont that be too much compression for ctr cams? i know that ctr piston in a gsr head will up the compression but not sure with a b16 head and with a 2 layer gasket. why ctr cams i think you should change cams and depending on cash get a better header like smsp, header tech, hytech and skunk2 intake manifold.

The reason I want to use the ctr is because of the midrange power those cams can make. I've seen 200whp with an itr header.

You want midrange? Get some TODA A's. B's would work nicely with that set-up. Enough compression.

I've seen the ctr cams make more midrange power than the Toda's. Plus this will be a daily driver, Toda's break stuff. Do you think the compression will be to much for the ctr cams.

In a cat's eye. Daily driver? Break stuff? Well I could put Toda A's in your car and you would never know it by the idle, but you sure as hell would by the gains over CTR cams in the mid-range and followed up by the raped ape pull to the redline. The rumors and lie's about Toda's breaking stuff and not idling are just that. Install error and tuning error. Please stop adding to them alright? You wanna talk about Toda's and how great they actually are. Talk to Jack @ P1 auto. How about streetable VTEC killers? Yeah that's right....

Toda cams are too expensive for a second car. As for Toda having the best midrange....

BLUE LINE; 220.9 HP, 141.7 TQ =JUN 3
RED LINE; 208.3 HP, 141.1 TQ =Type-R
GREEN LINE; 215.2 HP, 135.6 TQ = Toda C

Note the color's of the torque lines for each cam. The JUN 3's torque at 8,000 RPM are clearly 5+ lbs of torque higher than either the Type-R or Toda Cams. The Toda Spec C's started to surpass the Type-R cams in HP and TQ at about 8100 RPM.

I daily drive Toda B's and CTR pistons, among other parts. Just build it right and there shouldn't be a problem.

You should get 200whp. I made 204 with itr cams & pistons. Good Luck.

almost identical setup i will be running with the exception of i am using a ls crank and rods for the torque and toda or skunk cams, and a header tech header. i want over 200 whp daily driven for the street just to have fun, hopefully about 140 lb or torque to boot, with a itr tranny with an jdm final sould be very fun

I basically had this setup, here was mine:

c5 block
ctr pistons
mugen head gasket
(this brings cr between 12.5-13:1)
ctr cams
cai
dc header
test pipe
tanabe rm
cam gears
vafc
fpr

It was tuned on 93 octane. The only time it knocked was around 3500-4k. Im sure with hondata you can pull it off. I believe my timing was at 14 or 15. I never did a compression and leakdown test, so my #s could be off bc of it, but I made 180/129 with a nice midrange(Pulling v8s is cool on the hwy ) On the other hand, Chris(thats his HT screename) made 195/135 open header with just fpr tuning with a near identical setup

CTR cams will limit your Peak WHP, They are great cams for Close to facotory Setup!

I dont belive the power differnce will be worth the headache Between CTR pistons and JDM ITR or P30 Pistons! The CTR pistons will limit Timing to 16 deg. btdc or Less!

I would reconsider Setup By using Little Less compression and Little Larger Cams (IE...Skunk Stg. 1, Toda Spec A)

my motor is almost the same.if you have the money spend it on your head, thats were the power is.i talked to eric at erics racing and he's the man so i listened to him.i have a gsr motor which i got the comp. port and polish job from erics kept my rods used jdm itr pistons,skunk2 valves, springs and retainers, cams also{stage 2}.eric said it's best to stay with the same brands as far as springs, cams go that where he seen the best results.i got a lightened flywheel and underdrive pulley.skunk2 intake manifold erics racing throttle body and an aem cold air intake. v-afc to tune with and a p28 programed by erics.with a itr tranny eric said i will be around 215-230 whp if tuned well.i dont have a/c or power steering.i haven't dynoed yet but ill post when i do with a graph.
