Default Who here has upgraded valvetrain and its effects?!?

I was probably looking into getting an upgraded vavle train in the future; either Ferrara, Portflow, or Skunk2 and I was wondering what would the new rev line be after such an upgrade. Please lets keep this informational and not full of assumptions or oppinions..

Dyno plots help as well as personal experience..

Thanks.

Well, you might already know what I run, but if you don't, I use Web Cam's springs and Ti retainers. The increased spring pressure allows for better valve control in the upper RPM range. this means less chance of valve "float". The rev limit is increased to over 9000 RPM and the springs also allow for larger cams to be used.

Hey 2.6 I knew there wouldnt be many replies because most peole are still into if they should get JDM or US lights.. But thanks for the reply.. One thing I have discovered is that most people still go back to stock retainers because they say that titanium wears out faster. What are your experiences with yours, how long have you had them?? And did you use oversize valves on intake/exhaust or stock??

I know you have the Web Cams as well but I am not too familar with their profile on the cams.. Would you suggest this as a worthy component to upgrade or should I be looking elsewhere for gains?

Sorry for the 2 questions..

I have never experienced any wear whatsoever on the Web Ti retainers. I have been running this set hard for the last 4 years. I have stock valve sizes in my head. I have found that oversize valve in a NA application cause the air velocity to drop a bit. This slightly decreased CFMs through the head. I would only use oversize valves in a forced induction set-up.

The web cams I am currently using are 267-148e+2 grinds. They are on the small side, but In a stock engine I dynoed 13 whp more. I really suggest using the Web Cams stuff. They have been great to deal with over the years and the quality especially in the springs and retainers is exceptional.

Hmmn good info. The reason why I ask is because I am still undecided on whether or not to turbo or go for a mild NA setup when next year comes around. I mean the S-spec engine is great but I know a whole lot of potential still resides in this motor and I am looking into varying options..

Do you take it to 9k all the time or only mostly on the track?? And although you valves are stock size are they also from Web? Website where i can look up more info and such on prices of their setup..

Thanks.

And I still say you need to drop that beast into a hatch and then build up a turbo f22b for the Accord.. It just plain makes sense.. hehe

No, I don't rev it to 9000 RPM, but it is nice to be able to, in case of a miss-shift...LOL. BTW, I do have a simmiliar engine waiting to go in my 92 Hatch race car.

Well dont hold back what do you rev to!! Do the cams not support the effort of taking it to 9k? And how come this is the first time I am hearing of this other engine?!? I knew of the car but not the engine..

My street car I shift at 7800 RPM. I have run cams in the past that had huge durration and made great power up to 8400 RPM, but Idle quality sucked and since this is my daily driver, I opted for driveability.

I have several engines in different states of build-up. This Engine for the Civic is almost Identicle, but has Higher compression. I am still working on the Civic chasis, so I probably will put the new engine back in the Accord for a while and do some more "playing". Since it is a 15/1 comp engine, it doesn't go far on pump gas. I also am considering changing piston set-up to include 18/1 comp, but we will see. The chasis should be done soon.

Damn now those are project CR ratios. Ever though of using ITB's as well. I am sure they would help you since you have bigger displacement...

I am actually working on a mechanical fuel injection that includes ITB's.

And I am guess from our conversation unless you have the cams to support the need to get to 9k then it probably isnt necessary yet to upgrade the valvetrain.. I really need to get a base line dyno done so I can see how the Type S cams perform under load.

I would upgrade the valve train when you get different cams. I would run the Web springs and retainers with just about any cam availible.
