Has this happened to you?
I was driving & all of a sudden my whole car shut down, no accesories or anything. I was coasting to the side of the road & smoke started pooring out from the hood. I opened the hood & my intake was being burned by my plastic cover over the battery terminal- I guess the cover was slightly off & the battery arced to the intake & shorted itself or something. I went & got a new battery & wrapped part of my intake in electrical tape so it doesn't happen again- will that work? Crazy ish right..........

That's exactly what I thought, I'm glad nothing got shorted out, you can see a burn mark where teh spark had to of it. Oh well, one more repair for the cursed Si

You should be glad that your car did not catch on fire, I have seen it time and time again when it actually happens but people ain't as lucky as you are and there hole front end gets burnt up.

so, will my electrical tape fix work? I wrapped a good portion of the intake in the tape in hopes that I will not have to deal w/ this again. it's wierd- i had everything the same for the last year, the only thing that changed was I did a ZC swap, and BAM this happens(?)
Happened to me kinda but not that bad, my intake touched the terminal and sparked. I ziptied a face clothe around the intake arm and that did the trick.

Well the electrical tape will work temporarily. The tape will rub through pretty easy. The ideal thing to do is relocate the battery like stated or for a better fix get a piece of plastic around 3"x4" or or so heat it up and bend/mold it around the intake tube or 2"diamaterx 3" length of rubber tubing and slice then wrap around then zip tie the thing on there where the terminals came in contact. But make sure to keep monitoring it. I never like the idea of having a big metal peice hanging out over/around my batery.
I also have tape around my intake to protect the metal from the battery, glad I did way back when I swapped batteries. It has worked so far(I haven't checked in maybe a month) but its just a temp. solution. You can try to work the battery to the back, or just get a big piece of plastic to wedge between the intake and battery.
Edit: Balue3 beat me to it.
