vtec opinions
i did not say which is more over rated. and i never once ever said i was opposed to vtec. please dont make things up. did i ever talk negativley about vtec? did i ever talk negativley about vtec parts? is that ok with you if i get my learn on?
personally i didn't think vtec was any big deal in my d16z6 i could barely feel it but then with the DOHC b18c1 i loved it, i actually could feel the kick and my exhaust would roar...a friend of mine who is all about american muscle said it was like a "little shot of nos"

Have you ever ridden in a 2100 lb car with a turbo ls?
I think that would change your opinion.

how does a vtec controller function .. i thought that vtec had to build pressure .. if you used a vtec controller to make it kick sooner than stock then would it not have enough pressure or am i just confused about what a vtec controller does.

a vtec controller just makes vtec kick in whenever you want it to vtec uses a constant supply of pressurized oil and a switch to control the oil supply to lock a third rocker arm together so the motor runs off the bigger cam lobe it normally kicks ina 4500 rpm but with a vtec controller u can change at what rpm it engages

basically...having vtec come in lay-tor is usually for motors that have larger cams. you'll usually notice, as u get more aggressive w/ vtec motors and their cams, the most aggressive motors usually have a later x-over point.
compare 1st gen b16 w/ the h22...
but, really, there are 2 different "types" of vtec (dont knock me on this yet...i'm gonna make an analogy, and you guys who do know you're shiet will understand when i'm done).
if you look @ some of the civic ex and accord ex motors which have vtec, this is more of a "economy and emissions vtec". in these motors, such as the the d16z6 and d16y8 ( i think) and f22 (i think) the crossover should be almost inaudible, and u sure as hell wont feel it. on top of that, the majority of these motors only have vtec on the intake valves.
moving to the meaty motors, thats when you really feel the crossover. these motors are the dohc vtec motors from b series (b18c5, b16, b17, b18c, b16b etc...), the s2000 motor, nsx, h22, and the new c32 (i think thats the new code for the cl/tl type s motors). those are more of the performance vtec which have vtec on both the intake and exhaust valves, as oppposed to the former.
hope that helps...
