I recently installed my oil pan with fitting this weekend, but no turbo yet. Did a bad job plugging up the hole with duct tape, but patched things up so it wouldn't leak again. After I was driving to work (40+ miles) and my oil light started to come on and off and finally stayed on. I immediatly pulled over and checked for oil. It was at the full mark. Turned on the car and oil light was still there. Turned off the car and checked the oil 5 times and it was full, checked the oil sensor on the back of the block (which I didn' t touch yet) it looked fine, it was connected and everything.
I then think the sensor went bad so I keep driving. I then start to notice the engine starting to run bad and that it is wanting to stall and it finally does. I pull over for my last time, open up the oil cap and smoke comes out. But no smoke around the engine or oil leaking at all and car temp seemed ok going by the gauge. I can still start the car and it idles fine and my boost/vac gauge shows normal vacuum. I will do a comp test, but what do you think it could be?
1. Oil pick up clogged?
2. Oil pump gone?
I am thinking these because the oil is full, oil looks good, no coolant in oil vice versa.
Does the oil pan need to be totally sealed off and allow for pressure or vacuum to acheive oil pressure?

when you check the oil, the motor has to be at rest for a while so you can get an accurate reading. when you pulled over and checked the oil right away you are probable not getting an accurate reading.
I recommend DONT drive the car anymore, until you can figure this problem out, otherwise the problem will get bigger. Let the car rest for a little bit and let the oil drain back into the pan and then check.

I let the car sit also and checked. Same results, full.
230K miles. Why would it go out just like that? It is weird concidering, I just replaced the oil pan. I think I had left forgien matter in the pan, or it just got sucked up through the oil drain fitting?
Also, does anyone know if an HF oil pump will fit on an D16a6 motor? I have a spare HF motor I can pick parts off.
