So basically, if a JDM motor is stolen, it cannot be traced because it has no VIN?
something like that... but if someones steal your car shoot em.... seriously theives will do anything now a days... i got my rims stolen in my garage and it was left on bricks that was from the backyard of my house

...and if you buy a JDM motor there'n no way to know if it was stolen from it's original owner either.

If you mean how can you trace your own motor, do something like etch it both where it's clearly visible, and also in a not so obvious spot so if you come across the guy with your engine you can prove it was yours.

well you can report the block number stolen to the police.
so say 6 months down the road you are looking at a engine bay and you realize "hey this is my ******* engiune" you can report it to the cops and they will go confiscate it.

No, but everytime I think about building one the thought of it getting stolen comes up.
For example, here in WV theft is nothing like Northern Virginia.
I am just trying to figure out, why so many honda's get stolen and never recovered. The JDM swap industry is making %150 profit off these motors.
Go to google, type in yahoo japan auction and then enter key word b18c.
After you convert yen to $$ you will see what I am talking about.
I sold my VX yesterday. Last night, I looked at a 1994 white CX and bought it. The body/interior is ABSLOLUTELLY FLAWLESS... I will post pics in a couple days so you can see what I am talking about.....
I don't know whether to keep it or sell it. Right now, I am selling it till someone gives me as much as I want for it.

Well it is a risk in this hobby, but people will steal anything if given half the chance, you hear about guys trying to take off with ATM machines, guys at 7 11 trying to walk out with a register, hell some people will even steal a bench off your front porch. Just take the proper precautions as you would with anything else you value and you should be okay. Also etch id#'s into the parts you purchase for your peace of mind.

How do businesses get the JDM engines anyways? I know they buy them, but from who?
salvage yards in japan maybe? Im sure with such demand here, there are businesses dedicated solely to shipping engines to the american honda crack heads.
they get them from japan because of the strict emissions in japan... i recall around 45-50 k they have to remove their engine or get a new car? (correct me if im wrong) and at that point they shipp them here to us...
In japan the insurance is thru the government, and they have very strict yearly inspections. If your car is damaged in almost anyway or doesnt meet requirements, it is deemed "unsafe". And since labor rates and repair rates are very high in japan, it's easier to get rid of the car. Plus prices on new cars there are relativly low in comparison. In Japan you can either afford to have a car or not, plus you have to prove you have a place to park it.
The guys you see with older cars are usually ones that know how to work on the car themselves, friends with shopowners or can afford to have an older car worked on.
