Default my R vs. the Stang

ok since we've covered the R vs. 95 Cobra thing, now I want to know what would happen if my R went head-to-head with my family muscle car. My R has Comptech Icebox and Filter. The Stang is a stock '99 GT convertible with the 4.6L modular V8 and 5-speed manual. I don't really know about 0-60 or 1320 times for the Stang. My guess is, from driving both, it would be close. Let's assume hypothetically that one car is driven by Michael Schumacher and one by Ayrton Senna so as to take driver skill out of the equation. Which car is faster driven to its full potential?

Ross, why don't you get one of your family member to race it against you R? I'm guessing that '99 GT Conv is an automatic, or is it? If it's an auto, let your dog or cat just step on it... the car should do the trick from there on.

In a straight line, the stang, on a road coarse, preferably one with a lot of turns and not to long of a straight away, the R!

Sadly, I think the Ford would win this one....
Check out www.car-stats.com for specs; Mustang's about .5 sec faster in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times...

99 GT

HP - 260
Tourque - 300
0-60 - 5.5
1/4 - 14.2 @ 98mph

note: I dont believe these are the ragtop specs..so adjust a little to compensate for the lack of roof.

With your mod and the stang being a convertible (Heavier then coupe) the stang will win barely. Get a JDM header with hi-flow cat or test pipe and it's a different story!

I would think the stang will walk away in first gear.

You guys read too many magazines.Have you ever been to a track on a test and tune night? If so how many of those POS's were running those times quoted?None. The best I have ever seen from a newer stock gt was 14.50 and that was a guy I know.My car ran that stock aswell. You guys are giving that car too much credit. If you can launch well Stock he should absolutely NOT be able to beat you off the line.My friend can't and he has a hard-top 5 speed. That convetable is a tank.you should race him I am sure you will be surprised.I see a lot of people when doing these kind of topics like to quote magazine times and hp but always seem to leave one important thing out,Wieght.

Oh come on they are not usless, if you had never driven a say Corvette Z06 and were going up against it in your R it would give you a good base line to let you know your gonna get killed, the numbers will always differ because of human error, but saying they are usless is dumb.

I agree with this, slowstangs have absolutly nothing on ITRs on a road coarse, even with a RC with a long straight a good driver in the R could be half way or more down the straight before the stang is even to it...but then again I could just be sayin this due to the Nature of HONDA in my blood... oh well

I think I remember reading that. The only sport compact magazine I've ever bought. Didn't the R beat it on the short course, and the mustang won on the long course? I can't remember.

I do remember they were busting on the mustang bigtime saying that it felt heavy, handled like crap, and wasn't fun, whereas the R was, "a drivers car".
