Which tranny is better, the ZC or Si tranny? I heard that the Si final drive is a 4.25 and the ZC is a 4.45. I also heard that the ZC has a 3.88 final drive but shorter gears. Can someone clarify this for me?
better is relative...
the zc will get up and going a bit faster, but with higher rpms at highway cruising speed as a down fall. the si is the reverse of that... and the dx is to the si as the si is to the zc in this example.
check this link out ---> http://crx.honda-perf.org/math/index.html i love it...

the stock Si has 4.25 final drive - the ZC has 3.888 final drive (same as DX) -
Si - 1st:3.25 - 2nd:1.894 - 3rd:1.259 - 4th:0.937 - 5th:0.771
ZC -1st:3.25 - 2nd:1.944 - 3rd:1.343 - 4th:1.033 - 5th:0.878
the best set-up is the ZC with Si final drive and if you want lower rpm's in 5th, use the HF 5th gear which is 0.694 or the Si 5th
Si - 1st:3.25 - 2nd:1.894 - 3rd:1.259 - 4th:0.937 - 5th:0.771

My starter lines up prefectly. ZC with a 90EX tranny.

now thats a lil overated
all the 88-91 trannies that have never been opened are very likely to have the differential pin worn out and be waiting to blow.... as a example i blew my Si tranny open like an egg 3 days ago bc of that pin...
all i say dont pay no more than 100 for a tranny, and get urself someone that will open it and replace the diff pin.... that way u make sure u dont brake that,... as the second thing that brakes on them are bearings and select forks....
the select fork that alway s breaks its usually 1st and 2nd one.... wich costs 70 bucks at honda.....
other than that u can have one that u can beat up for a while
