Default Head Milling woes

This is a question for those of you that have actually done this or have experience in the matter. I'm trying to up my compression approximately a point or as close to 11.0:1 as possible. I'm planning on using a combination of a spoon/mugen thinner headgasket and milling the head. The engine is a stock, US spec, 93 VTEC and I'm wondering if anyone can give me an estimate of how much I'll want to have milled off.... .020" ?? The claim of the spoon/mugen gasket is that it'll bump up your compression about .3-.4. I plan to cc my combustion chamber before reinstalling the head, but I'd still like a general idea of how much to have milled off.

Thanks guys.

your looking at approximately .040 thou with a STOCK head gasket

so I guess I could figure about 0.020" - .025" milled head combined with the mugen/spoon headgasket to reach the 11:1 goal?

Learn how to use compression calculations. I did a quick search on google and found plenty of sites that have it.

Search on compression ratio calculations in this forum. I posted a thread on this a while back. Also, you will have to watch for the piston hitting the head if you're not careful. At high rpm the rods will stretch a small amount, and since you are planning to take out most of the clearance you need to measure things carefully when assembling the engine.

Thank you flyrod for directing me to your post. I'm pretty familiar with engine calculations and rebuilding, and have in fact cc'ed combustion chambers before on other projects to help determine the expected compression ratio. I was more or less posting to see if anyone had done this before to get a general idea of how much I needed to mill off before I got my feet wet. I knew I could find the current volume of the combustion chamber, but wasn't confident enough in myself to guesstimate how much I needed to mill off to reach a desired volume.

So by your fomulas and my "plug and chug" skills I'm guessing I'd need to shave the head roughly .025" to yield a 10.61 compression ratio combined with the thinner headgasket that claims a bump of .3-.4 to give me approx 10.9-11.0:1 right?
Thanks again man.

BTW, don't worry I'll clay the motor before I start her up to be sure I'm not having any unwanted collisions, heh heh.
