what would you rather have...built d16 @ 18psi or stock ls @12psi??????
I can get a d16 for 100 bucks and build it myself
b16 rods with forged pistons and built top to bottom for around 1100 (done by a friends shop and me)
or drop 1400 for a ls swap and turbo that stock at 12 lbs of boost
how about it??? Which one would you want to have???
BTW I am leaning toward the d16 because it will have 0 miles and be built right
but..............the LS has a nice tranny (strenght wise, not gearing)

i personally would rather start off with a better motor. like the ls........but my buddy has a fully built sohc motor that should run easily high 12's in a crx.......it's kinda a toss up, you are right though the sohc will be built right, and fresh, i've heard of some stock sohc's that run low boost that hit 13's all day......i'd prolly go with the single, it should be a little cheaper but it hink the payoff with the ls will be greater
i'd go with whichever one you'd be more proud of showing off and braggin about. both should end up awesome, one being deficient of one cam the other being vtec handicapped, but both should kick *** and be fun to build. also consider which would be easier for you to swap/wire/maintain. have good luck
I'd go with the built D16 if you are talking about sleeving it as well. Actually even if you dont sleeve it, i'd still go D16.
Like many have said before, D16's are a dime a dozen if you crack a sleeve or throw a rod. Try finding B18 and B16 blocks for under a hundred bucks
Goodluck!

thanks for confirming my decision.

you can make the same amount of power on each.
Your main question is what is easier to maintain & what is going to be better for you off boost, driving it around town & such.

Fist off im sure you can find a full ls swap for cheaper than that, blocks are going for like $300 bux bno you can get head/im for $150 or so tranny $500, u get the pciture, i say go with the DOHC. ls on 12 psi done right will put u in the 12's easy.
What car do you have? If you have a light car like a CRX or something, then definitely go D series because you'll have less torque. If you have too much torque you'll be fighting traction issues all day. I'm turboing my D because I can go to any junk yard and pick up a block real easy. Plus people selling D series engines are everywhere.
i love how no one can agree on this issue.
I do agree with how it would be benificial to have less torque for everyday driving.
But everyone needs to consider stock ls VS built D16
I have concluded that I would want a built engine with 0 miles than a LS with 40k

LS is a good block to start off with. potential on LS is higher (IMO) than the D series. Im a B series fan.
The way I see it is at 12psi on a stock ls if you have any problems during buildup/tuning and you detonate hard 1 time it's pretty much over. Sleeved motors are a little more forgiving when you forget to carry the 1 (oops).
forget to carry the 1??
please explain this for me, I have know clue what it means
