Default So its been narrowed down... ls or d16?

well after alot of research and whatnot... its been narrowed down.

with a budget of $3000 and a car with a d16 already in it... what should i do?

pull the d and drop in a ls with custom turbo?

or

keep the d and put in the custom turbo?

the thing is... with 3000, thats gotta account for everything. exhaust, uberdata, etc.

LS! It wont cost very much for an LS swap and even if you have to do the swap and then save a little more for the boost it will be well worth it!!!

If you can afford to turbo the LS you could afford to build the D internals, maybe even including sleeves.

Torque vs a Torqueless motor.

Most guys pulling 300+ WHP on stock LS Blocks. And D is also SOHC

BTW, this question has been asked a lot. Try the search

Keep the D man, even if you blow the thing D16s are everywhere for cheap. I really think you'll eb able to do a ls swap and build a decent turbo setup for 3k, if you did it would be close and you wouldnthave any money left over if something goes wrong. You'll be happy with the boosted D, in the future you can build it up and run 18psi

what are your hp goals?
if they are sub 300, i would say stay with the d.

if not go with a b, but if you want over 300, $3000 wont be enough.

LS all the way. They have a lot more potential than those D.

Good advice. Plus, if this is your first foray into the world of turbocharged hondas, you'll really want to make your mistakes on a D (like a holed block..). Even though LS's are "cheap", they're only cheap relative to the more popular B series motors. Compared to a D16, they're mucho $$$.

Have you seen the numbers from a D16 turbo? About the same torque #'s as HP. There are a few guys running 200whp/190lbs with the D. So where did you get this "torqueless" motor theory from?

The B16 on the other hand...

You should have made this thread a poll. KEEP THE D. You can do a mild build real quick + a custom setup for 3k if your good. You'll be very happy with it. 3k might be a little short for ANY turbo project, though. Going over-budget is just a fact of life. Get eagle's + cp's, and then i'd assemble your own kit. Go external wastegate, t3 .48ar, 50 trim, whatever manifold you can get cheap, tial, and the rest do whatever you can. I scored a nice IC on ebay for 100$ brand new, re did the endtanks (they both entered from the back instead of the sides), custom jc whitney charge piping, bought a welder from 260, wirefeed fluxcore/gas mig, i used fluxcore. lastly, free rom editing software and your golden to max out your turbo. Don't forget the 3-bar.

Don't forget you can scrounge out 400-600 for your D. I'm completing my LS swap for a final of $1700 and that's with a brand new rebuilt GSR tranny.
