Default Cleaning up motor after spraying a chemical on it...

You know when you spray a chemical on the motor - like a degreaser- and then it leaves the motor with a film where it looks kinda corroded and not shiny... Is there ANY way to get rid of that and get it to look new again?

All you need to use is Dawn dish detergent!!! You don't need any harsh chemicals man.

Yeah, I know. I don't use any chemicals (just car wash soap) on my engin bay. I bought a used car though, and aparently, they used some nasty chemical and I was just wondering if there was any way to get that 'like new' look back

K-Mart or Wal-Mart sell some engine detailer. Is supposed to be used after you use Engine Degreser. I think it is made by CD2.

Try some simple green it works. Just spray down your cold engine with full strength simple green let it sit for a few minutes (more if it's really dirty) then hose it off. I've doe mine a few times and it still looks like new, no film. And not to sound like a tree hugger, but it is completely safe for the environment.

It's called engine finish - it's basically a high-temp clear coat spray - it works well but you have to make sure that everything is surgically-sterile clean or else you will have a crappy result.

I would remove as much as you feel comfortable from the engine bay and clean parts individually. Having an air hose helps - so you can blow away standing water and water that gets stuck in nooks and crannies.

New wires/hoses are your only hope for restoring any of the old looking rubber pieces...
