what is the downside to 4ws? can it be disabled/removed?
my '94 prelude has 4ws. i was wondering if this will limit the suspensions i can buy for it. can i remove this system? what would be involved in this process? i plan to go with a stand alone ecu in the future. what would become of the 4ws steering then? i really want it removed. is there any way i can do this safely?thanks.
I believe the restrictions to modding the suspension is that the upper brace cannot be put on unless you relocate the 4WS ECU nit in the back. Also, you can't put on a lower strut bar becase of the 4WS mechanism.
You can convert your car back to 2WS. However, I am not sure what exactly is involved.
I LOVE 4WS. It is such a cool design and it is making a comeback now. I say keep it.

Unless you plan on doing some SERIOUS racing, you'll have more fun with the system than without. Springs, shocks, and most bushings are shared with the 2ws, and i'm sure you could get a custom bar made (which would actually be better than most of the bling ones on the market today.).
And despite what those who don't race with the system say, it does make a difference. Especially if you autocross, where there's no weight penalty for the system.

but if i get a stand alone ecu how will this effect the 4ws? what fuse could i pull to disable it? the car has fairly high mileage, and i don't want to have to repair it if it breaks. it already looks as if the right rear wheel does not rotate as much as the left rear when the steering wheel is fully turned. if i pull a certain fuse someone mentioned that the wheels would lock. how could i make sure that they lock straight?
