Default Something is wrong with my tranny...

first of all, i drive an 2001 GSR, have about 42k miles. I was driving downhill, so i let it off on gear and let it drive in neutral. And then i started to feel some clicking from the shift ****, thinking maybe its always been like this but i never noticed it before. and then after that my first gear started to grind like a bitch. like it would only grind when i shift to first while my car is rolling.

let me explain more in detail about the problem.

while driving, i am coming upon a stop sign. I put it into neutral. apply brake to slow down, and when im down to like 5 minus mph, i press and holds on the clutch and shift to first (so that i can be ready to go after i stop completely). That is when it starts grinding like a bitch, while the shift **** is going to 1st. Grinding this gear feels awckward, like, i feel teeth by teeth grinding. its almost like a very clean grinding.
I can prevent my first gear grinding by waiting till i stop completely and then shifting to 1st.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is with my tranny? and what caused this? thanks!
hope u guys understood what im trying to say here. if not, ill try to be more clear.

worn 1-2 synchro. just wait till you come to a complete stop before shifting into first.

ya, its covered under warranty. I have a 2001 as well.

but... why would you ever want to downshift to 1st? Your syncros should not ever allow it.

You shouldn't be able to go into first at all while you are still rolling, unless you rev-match it, or you really force it.. Just try being a little more patient.

So u guys are telling me u never shift into first when ur rolling 3, 4, or 5 mph? i dont engage into 1st till i go to a complete stop but i do shift to 1st right before completely stopping.

let me know if ive been driving stick the wrong way for the last 4 years.

I'm sure the 1-2 synchro is worn, just like the above post mentioned. Also, you're really never supposed to put it in 1st while the car is in motion. I'm sure this is what lead to the worn out synchro.
