Default looking for the best motor for the $ to build for a turbo later

anyone have a swap in there 90-91 hatch stock or boosting? If so what all do you have? Right now im thinking LS (non vtec) or B20 but personaly i think the B20 has to much torque for a 1,909lb car. What do all think i should get to make a great turbo motor and what is the best cable trans for that setup in my car?

well you really have to learn how to search. nobody can tell you what THE best motor is for your sercumstance. every body has a diff want in a car. so thats a decision you will have to make and research. as for b20 having TOO much torque, since when is more power bad? specially if you want to go fast? you want torque. torque is your friend. just get some nice rubber. good luck

the search mode doesnt get me anywhere im looking for people who an ls or b20 swap in there hatch so i can see there numbers. Also torque isn't the same as hp like you just said it was. If i couldnt get traction in my car with the dx motor with 136k miles and brand new tires it has like 92 bhp and arould 80fp torque now if that can spin all the way into third i dont see how more torqu would help me at all. spining the tires doesnt make you fast!!

when did i say anything about a motor being to fast? i didn't! torque isn't really top priority for me right now i would rather get my power more at like second gear thats why im looking for a good turbo setup so im dont just sit and spin first

ls or b20 is yhe way to go traction is easy with slicks. Our stock LS 00 SI runs 12.2@111 and 12.5@119

If you can spin all the way into third gear, With a stock dx motor, Why the hell would you want to swap? I myself smell bullshit... 1. Learn your **** buddy, More torque means faster acceleration. 2. There are 3 really good ways to control wheelspin I can think of right now (1. Learn how to drive 2. An adjustable rev limiter for take off 3. a good set of tires) 4. Don't come to a board and ask stupid questions that can be researched just about anywhere. Such as the FI forum...

You really sound like you dont know a damn thing of what you want. You want to go fast woth no torque and you dont want enough power to spin the wheels, you also dont want to go fast in first gear, but go fast in second. Maybe you should just stick to your 3rd gear tire smoker dx motor and learn how to use the throttle and clutch better

ya know, I think that he is right, because all of the big dogs out there that are running 10's have the stock DX motor, and are spinning through 3rd ..
That is like saying I don't understand why I go fast when I'm on a sport bike! If you don't want to go fast, then let off the throttle. If you know how to drive, then you won't get crazy tire spin. It's called throttle control. I use to drive a 01 VW Golf 1.8t running 16lbs of boost. You want to talk about torque, it had 240 Fb . You have to learn to drive, but when you get it, it is worth it. You're not gonna get out of the whole with just HP, you need torque to get you moving. The ls turbo is a great set up. I have a buddy with an EG with LS turbo (stock block) on street tires that ran high 12's . Saw it many times, but he knows his car, and knows how to launch it !! Go LS Turbo and practice your driving, shifts, launches, and just so that you know, you don't have to hit red line, that doesn't mean that you are going fast cuz you hit the read line, you want to stay in your power range. hope this all made some sense and helped you out alittle.

id go b20 it lacks some of the 1.8 top end for some reason but i pulled a 14.43 all motor with CAI, testpipe, tanabe race medalian 2.5 inch catback, pully, and stock manifold , also had 2 degree RETARD due to obd0 destributer on obd2 head didnt shim it out sence i was turboing anyway.... now i run turbo with Zdyne Gold SECU which is the best thing you can buy for 4th gen turbo cars, screw that pain in the but converting to obd1 for hondata .... Zdyne is identical to it anyway just cheaper to do and is made for the car so look into that for a fuel system just my .02

who cares why is there always someone in a pissing contest on every other thred. so it can spin thorgh 3rd big deal i rode incars that spin thorugh fourth. just answer the kids question.

im doing B20 VTEC now. probably put a turbo on it soon. the b16 isint worth the cash, and neither is a GSR. i would just ditch the wholoe vtec thing and do an LS turbo as well. my friends running over 260HP on a stock b18b block and it runs awesome.
