Default B20z w/ stock bottom end and stock 2nd gen B16 head????

If I got a stock 1999-2000 B20Z with the higher comp pistons and threw on my 100% stock 95 B16 Head will I have problems with the valves hitting the pistons? Do I have to cut the valve relief on the pistons? Maybe CTR cam in the future too. I know I can buy aftermarket pistons made for this setup but that is not my concern right now. Thanks guys.

Make sure you change the rod bolts because stock CRV rods bolts have been none to break at high RPM's becuase they were only made to go to like 6 grand.

If your using stock cams with high compression pistons i dont think you will have any problems.I think i heard you can go as high as 12.5c/r with ctr cams with no V-P clearance issues.

I have seen many people running the stock B20 bottom end and revving to 8k and plus. My question is it wasnt designed to hold that. I know that the block has oil squirters and such. Are bod bolts the key?

Just thinking of building one as a daily that wouldnt see over 8200...

i took my 11.5:1 LS/VTEC to nearly 9k a couple times, it pulled alll the way to the rev limiter, if properly built, high revs CAN be done, bt i wouldn't recommend doing it very often

Properly built LS/VTECs can rev into the 9K range.

However the B20 setup cannot. I dont think even with serious tuning you can get away from the shity cylinder walls of that block. If you run 12.5 : 1 Compression on that block and rev to 9K all day. Sooner or later you are gonna crack a sleeve.

It's all about pressure in the cylinder. B20 blocks are notorious for this type of failure.

I have that combo but I took 30 thou off the deck and 12 thou off the head. I'm running Toda A's. I cut the pistons to suit the 33mm VTEC valves and if I take my cam timing back to "true" zero the valves hit. I recommend cutting the pistons, not taking too much off the head/deck and going conservative on cam timing advance.

Uhh no they don't.

You will be fine with a stock B20Z block and B16 head as far as valve to piston clearence goes. What ECU are you gonna run? I'd keep it to around 7K on the streets.

how deep did you go on the b20z pistons, did you get to take pictures. i'm hoping to do this to my b20z bottom end, so that i can run rev flat face valves, with sk2 stage 2 cams. i think that using those valves, and cams i can squeeze 210whp out of the b20z short block using stock pistons and rods!

It's not really how deep you cut them, it's how wide. I took a little out the first time and then clayed. I then took it out further again and went damn close to the edge of the piston. Sorry no photos....

cool, what cams are you using(just to get an idea). i'll leave both the head and the block alone, and i'll make the reliefs wide enough(cross my fingers) to accomodate skunk2 stage 2 cams!
