4th gen gauges....... colors......
i know someone here has done something different with their gauges. i think he converted color to a nice blue using some kind of a film....
to be honest, until now i thought something like that would be ricey but that green color is getting kind of boring.
i want to know how to convert it, what film and where to get it from, how much it is, and if it's easy to do. it seems pretty easy....
pls. help if you have any info on this mod.
thanks.
i want to make these light up blue, rice or not. i dont care.

If you take the cluster apart, there is a greenish-blueish piece of plastic between behind th gauge face. I imagine if you replace it, it'll change the color.
I'd like to take mine out to make it bright white - it would go nicely with some VDO gauges

Oh hell - I have an extra '94-'96 gauge cluster at home that doesn't work (it lights up, but the gauges don't work). I'll take it apart and take pics, and see if I can change the color or something.
Stay tuned kids.
What to do with the
fuel and water temp
gauges though?

Mine are blue, its easy to do.... Anthony if you need help just let me know, i've got some spare film too.

There is a write-up on HPOA.org i believe but you basically just take the gauge panel out (fuel/temp), unscrew the white back with 12 small screws, pull the circuit board out that has the gauge faces on them and put a few layers (i used 2) of film between the gauge face and the plastic in front of it... as for the speedo/tach, i have a non EL speedo/tach and i just did the same thing, took it out and put 2 layers of the blue film in behind it. I have an EL cluster that i'm installing tomorrow and plan on doing the same thing with the film.
Let me know if i'm not clear enough, that was kinda quick.

I've been wanting to do that for a while, but i never have time....this wouldn't happen to be your album you did on it, would it? http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4290804683
Nah, thats the guy who did the write-up on hpoa.org i believe.
I've also redone my climate control with blue and red LED's, it adds a lot to the blue gauges up top.

I plan to change out all my bulbs with nice blue LED's Takes a little bit of time but the end product is well worth it. Cheap too. I don't think you can change the gas/temp gage without the film correct? Because isn't that indigo?
I just told you how to do it with film, he's right PreludeRacer023 has done it as well. No you cannot change bulbs on the fuel/temp gauges, they are digital.
Yes you can swap LEDs into the 5th gen climate control, it has been done and there is a write up as well. Its almost identical to 4th gen. You'll need LEDs, resistors, soldering tools, and a multimeter.

Um, how did i remove it... its been a while... take the console out, remove the bracketing that holds the cd player/ashtray/cig lighter, then there are 2 bolts on the front of the climate control, and one that is underneath i believe. You also have to disconnect 2 wire harnesses and don't forget to disconnect the temperature cable. That's the tricky part but you should be able to figure it out. No you can't use blue film for the climate control, i guess you could try to paint the bulbs or somesuch, but it won't look anywhere near as good as LEDs. I wish i had a good picture to show you guys, i'll try to get ahold of a digi cam and take one soon.

While we're on the subject of guages (Not to hi-jack your post!)
Does anyone have a 94-96 guage cluster (Electro. Lumin.) that they are wanting to sell?
Thanks!!!

Yeah man, i'm in clemson all summer.... yeah, you can drop by no problem... i'll have the dash ripped out this weekend cuz i'm installing the EL cluster and the full 94-96 dash harness, but otherwise it'll be up and running, pics would be good.
I installed my new EL cluster yesterday so today I am having to make it blue. (Same process as standard cluster) And i am also redoing the fuel/temp gauges. Soooo if anyone wants pictures, let me know... they're both in pieces on my floor right now opened up. I will finish them tonight, let me know before its too late.
hay guys im the guy on HPOA that did the write up on the blue gauges its really ez here is the write up http://www.preludeperformance....old=0 and heres a link for pictures http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4290804683

Damn that looks pretty cool....

Are they a different color now??

I snapped some pictures of the gauges all taken apart to show you exactly where to put the film... it was my friends digi-cam so i'll get him to DL them to his computer and send 'em my way so i can post 'em.
As for the climate control... i ripped mine apart and redid all of the lighting with blue and red LEDs, i'll try to take pictures of it all in the car if i can.
