heya, I only found a couple of posts about hard shifting, nothing that answers my question, so here it is:
Shifting from neutral to first (from a stop) is sometimes pretty hard. I either have to shift to 2nd, then to 1st, (sometimes several times), or wiggle it a bit, or muscle it in.
This is with clutch all the way depressed. Will Honda MTF help with my problem ?

Im sure youve already tried this, but since first gear works a little differently than all the rest, you might be able to get into gear with the clutch pedal slightly higher from the floor than during any other gear switch... i find that the clutch sort of needs to be in a different spot to slide into first.

thanks! where was your linkage cracked? how did you go about checking it?
silver- thx too! I'll keep that in mind. I am a newbie manual driver, so I need a lot of advice and practice.

If it makes you feel any better every honda i've ever owned has had trouble getting into first at times, its a honda thing. Just pump the clutch a few times and pop it into gear.
I've encountered that problem, and here is what I do (which has helped me quite a bit):
when you're coming to a stop, put the clutch in and as you slow to a stop, slide into 1st. At speed <5 miles/hour, it sould slide right in and makes it easier to put the car into gear later on.

It was cracked right behind the block where it makes the turn to head to the tranny. Mine was so bad that if the car was off and you tried shifting the car into 1st, 3rd, or 5th you could hear it crunch.

I've had this kind of trouble.....you can go about it two ways...
1st you can shift in to 2nd gear and give it a lil gas as if you were going to start from it like if it was 1st gear and then pop it into 1st and I'll go right in.
2nd sometimes you can just give it a lil gas with the clutch in and then pop it into 1st that works too...
Talking about transmission problems I'm having some too...
I think my clutch is going out...Imma do a search first before I make a post..
anyway I hope I was of some help

I just noticed today that if I am at a slight forward roll with the clutch all the way in, it's a LOT easier to get into first. Is this normal??
Thanks for all the replies!
